Default Boxing

Henry Maske (inactive for ten years) beats Virgil Hill (still active)- and beats him very hard.

I admit that I did not expect this and thought that Maske would catch up a real hard beating. Instead Hill had small advantages only in the first 2 or 3 rounds, then Maske found his distance and egalized the fight and slowly turned it. It was real chess what he did, and Hill found no answer to that. After Hill suffered a huge cut from a very obviously unintentional head collision, Hill grew increasingly desperate and hectic - but was just runnimng against a wall or was held at a distance from where he could not strike.

I never liked Maske's way of boxing, but I cannot remember to ever have seen his style scoring so clearly and being so efficient like today. the recipe worked, and worked extremely well. Great fight, much blood, and an impossible dream coming true.

My apology to Henry Maske for having sentenced him in advance, and wrongly so. Tonight he was a true champion.

The scoring of the juidges also was very clear, 2x 117-110, 1x 116-113.

Hill tried his possebilities, but at no time it was ever enough.

Taken for itself, also a very good fight, independant from the names included.

Respect, Gentleman!

George Foreman's come-back was also rather spectacular some years ago. But I somehow have the impression that since boxing in general is in decline, modern "top" fighters are not anywhere near what they used to be some decades ago.

I have heard "ad nauseam" the argument about an hypotetical Muhammad Ali vs. Mike Tyson engagement....most people I have heard were sure that Tyson would have been able to knock Ali out, and the argument was the KO record Iron Mike had. But few did know that Ali finished a fight against ken Norton with a broken jaw. So I guess Norton -and other boxers of that time- did hit as hard -or even harder- than Tyson, as Tyson has never broken anybody's jaw (Though he has ripped off an ear ).

Interestingly, no one less but the mighty Joe Louis suffered a terrible come-back, where he wasn't anywhere near his former performance. Certainly, the come-back was in a moment of economic pain and probably not as well-prepared as he would have liked, but anyway, those were different times:hmm:
