Screenshots, remove dials and messages

How do you remove the dials and message block for taking a screenshot?
Tried nearly every button combination but the fr*ggin things don't go away.

Ok, it is a known fact people do not read manuals. But are they skipping the Quick Reference Card these days as well ???
