Default SH4 and widescreen LCD's?

I read a post where someone mentioned sh4 doesn't render well with widescreen tv's
I play sh3 on a 32 lcd ,,looks good,,How is sh4 and true widescreen support with proper aspect?

Also if you are running in a higher resolution than 1024 X 768 do the screenshots resize to 1024 X 768?

THanks

Well, I have only a 24lcd (Dell2407) but to me I think its quite a shame how it looks (would be wayyyy better in full resolution). But look for yourself (jpg loses some sharpness but you can clearly see the effect of upsampling)...

Maybe you can rent it at a local store and make a testdive yourself? Or you play in 1024x768 without resizing...

screenshots will be in your current resolution (mine is 1920x1200)

The good news is that the devs have said they are going to try to sort this problem out for patch 1.2.

Currently:

The game supports higher resolutions than 1024x768 but the 3D external views are upscaled from 1024x768 (approx) to the set resolution. I should note that I still think the periscope view is in full resolution but has s/w AA applied making it look blurry.

The game does not support hardware FSAA at all at the moment

Rather than EXPAND the view area for wide screen owners horizontally they have CROPPED the widescreen view area vertically so widescreen owners have the correct aspect ratio but can't see as much as 4:3 users. The devs haven't mentioned anything about this to my knowledge.

The game seems to have some issues for people who run through TVs, a number of posters have reported that 720p currently doesn't work even if set in the game config file manually.

The larger the screen you have the worse the 3D view will look....

The game has the potential to look better than nearly any other game right now imo. For me this makes fixing the Res and enabling h/w AA (in that order) the most important issue because on a big screen the problem is so obvious.

Agreed. I cancelled my pre-order when I heard about the 1024x768/FSAA problem. However, lots of people posted that it looks OK, so I actually went and bought it. On my 22" Iyama CRT it looks absolutely, jaw-droppingly, terrible - even worse than I had feared. Oh well, live and learn and hope that 1.2 fixes the problems.

Cheers,

RD.

Once they fix the resolution.... it will look pretty damn amazing imo, h/w AA will be the icing on the cake For large screen users AA alone just won't cut it at all.. Even h/w FSAA on 1024x768 will still look awful.

SH4 does NOT support true widescreen resolutions!

SH4 does not support true widescreen resolutions or 16:10 aspect ratios.

Essentially, SH4 is still rendered in the dated 1024x768 resolution just like SH3. What the devs have done is to upscale that limited resolution across the entire widescreen and then simply employed a pan and scan. As a widescreen user, what you end up with in the end is an image that is actually smaller than what a 1024x768 user sees. You don't experience a larger field of view that widescreens offer, nor do you enjoy the benefit of higher resolutions that widescreens employ. You do, however, get big blocky pixels upscaled from the smaller resolution that the engine is currently shackled to.

What a shame.

After 8 years on the same ancient PC I am just about to take delivery of a 22" wide screen gaming behemoth, so this is really really bad news as I had been looking forward to SH IV in super-crisp wide-screen.

I think it is semi-bad news. First minutes in 1920x1200 were "Oh good, my eyes pop out. what the heck have they done?"

The jaggies are worse than in my pictures because they gently move up and down and up and down as the boot rocks in the sea...

It is pretty bad in harbour, very bad in the F2 view (lowest of my picture), not much bad on bridge and rest I learned to live with

I still hope for a full resolution patch. That should look just great. SH4 just deserves it!

My new computer and 22" screen arrives Tuesday. I am confident that this problem will be addressed so I'm not going to sweat it...:p

Yes, I did buy the game (deluxe edition - 0826/3000). I hope the problem with resolution and the rest of the bugs will be fixed...

1280x800 is working very nicely for me.

I did not realize that it was cropped. I'm playing on a 17" widescreen, and I really like the image. I just wish my invida card, I've 7600, was up to max graphics. I looked at my other monitor, 19" 1024x768, and I do not think I'm losing anything, even with cropping. I love the view in horozontal mode. It creates the illusion of horizon better. Normal eye view is peripheral really. My native 1280x800 graphics are very good, better than SH3, but I doubt the quality would hold up at higher resolution.

Damn! Looking at that picture I am going to HAVE to get the collectors edition now! Is that a COMPASS I see as one of the things in the tin box? The whole thing looks amazing.
