Default SH4 on older cards

Those of you with older vid cards who were expecting it to run like Sh3 GWX....your going to be sourly disapointed, it runs like ass..and I mean ASS...

Even on lowest settings Im getting about 3-5 frames per second.

I have to have more of a play with it, but Sh3 with a few tweaks this is not...

Be Aware...

They say aditional chipsets may be supported after release...although we all know how that usually turns out...

I thought you may like that a bit better...

But you know how you can usually just drop the settings and still play...not from the looks of things...a patch to support other chipsets may be in the works, but my card isnt that bad.

Ati cards it says 9600 +...

First time I have had to pay attention to the system specs for a game, and I recomend others do so before you waste a trip to the game store.

The system specs seem to be unusually high for a game comming out at the moment. I just though it was worth mentioning as some forum members say they have older rigs...

Sorry to say, but your 5700 card is really old and minimum specs has always meant that the game will "run" but not much more... precisely as you state above.

SH4 is way ahead of SH3 when it comes to the graphics departement and thus you can not compare them in that way. No matter how low you set your settings SH4 will run very poorly on a system equipped with a graphics card at or near minimum specifications.

Besides the above systems with these types of graphics cards inside almost always have bottlenecks in other areas as well, like CPU type and amount of memory available.

Good of you however to come back to these forums and tell the rest of us what we have to wait if we decide to buy the game and play it on a system at or near the minimum specifications.

Regards,

Jonas

LOL. Yes it is! 5xxx series is the worst crap you ever saw from Nvidia since their Edge-cards. But crap or not, the 5700 model was out in late 2003. Your card isn't just bad, it sucks due to age. I suggest you save up for a replacement. Don't forget when SH3 was released your card model was "merely" about 1½ years old. It is now 2 years since.

A complete new computer is probably too expensive for you at this point, but that 1 giga of memory is also a concern I think. It would be interesting to hear from other 1-gigabyters. I have 2 and with that there are no significant problems.

As for me, I'm running SHIV on a 2800+ AMD 64 with 1GB of DDR2 RAM and a Radeon X800XL - no problem at all playing on preconfigured medium settings at all - it runs even smoother than SHIII with GWX expansion at similar settings.

Iirc, the X800XL isn't exactly the latest graphics adapter out there...

It is mostlikely just the graphics card that is stopping it from running well enough on 1gig...although 1 gig is borderline in my opinion and 2 or higher is what you really want for sh4 preferably 3-4 if you want some longetivity for upcomming games.
Im getting a new system in about 2 months and I really cant justify spending money on a new card for this machine in the meantime, its just going to end up a MCSE study box for server OS's...

Im still surprised that the game runs asbadly as it does, it really doesnt scale very well, and I think Ubisoft are making a mistake doing this.

They are taking an already small market and making it even smaller with the harsh system requirements, alot of people wont go and get a new card for a game which scales 1024x768 with no AA. A patch to support other cards (as the box states) is too late the sales will have gone by then...

I think they will see an execive number of returns and less sales overall due to this and that hurts the series when the suits look at the numbers.
I am worried for this franchise, I hope Im wrong...

That being said Im going to return the game, untill I get my new machine, mabe it will be on special by then

Yes,,I'm sorry to say that the 5xxx series (exception 5900) was a matter of fact many times singled out in many games as : "Not supported videocards" on the game box.

I find the game pretty tolerable on medium settings on a 128mb GeForce 6800.
One trick I use is keep the environmental effects (fog, water transparency etc.) turned off while actually playing but enabled for replays and just cruising. Lets me have a good frame rate when concentrating on my target, and a good viewing when taking in the scenery of it all :p

I have an AMD 2800+ Barton cpu (I think. Been awhile since I've looked at the specs) and GeForce 6600 Ultra which will run SH3 wth GWX 1.2 very smoothly on high settings. I have some stutter in port, so I use the light traffic mod. Out of port, everything looks fine and runs well.

I'm debating whether to even get SH4 at all because I am not going to upgrade my comp until Oleg Maddox's Battle of Britain comes out.

So my question is, will SH4 run at an acceptable level with moderate graphics set on my machine?

Thanks

I cant say for sure Spin Doctor, and you dont mention your ram (as long as you have a 1gig at least) your machine should run it acceptable imo.

You have a 6000 series card and they are supported.

other users may be able to give thier ideas too...

Yep environmental effects is a real fps killer , on my 6600 GT I have 10 fps but turned off I get 30+ fps.
