I made a similar post a while ago right after the game's release. At that time I had not seen any rain or storms at all in the game. I was assured by many of you that there are some pretty big storms and I would run into them sooner or later. Well I've been playing for quite a while now and still I have not seen a drop of rain. The only weather I ever see is clear skies, partly cloudy, and sometimes complete cloud cover. I've never seen anything else. Is this normal? I have environmental effects turned off, does it need to be turned on to get rain? Just curious, its not a game breaking bug or anything but I do miss those SH3 style storms....

I don't see lots of rain.. but I have definitely seen it.. my last patrol it rained solid for 3 days which made it impossible to attack anything! I do run with environmental effects on.. Can you try turning the effects on for a while to see if it makes a difference?

EE definitely does NOT need to be on to get rain. I run with EE off thanks to the "monolith of FPS death" and get rain all of the time. Sank a 2 ship formation last night in a blinding rainstorm when it was pitch black. Had to get within 300 yards too see them.

I think I can say that the weather engine in SH4 "seems" to be much more advanced than in SH3. However it just seems to be to me. Haven't logged enough patrols across all seasons to confirm.
I have the feeling there will be no need for SH4 Weather....

First I should apologize, I was going back and forth between the SH4 forum and the SH4 mods forum and accidently posted this in the wrong one.
Well it sounds like you can all testify to seeing rain without EE enabled. Thats very interesting. I havent made it very far in the game, I've been starting the campaign over a lot just practicing the manual targeting. I dont think I've made it past the second patrol yet. If the weather isnt random then that would explain a lot, since I've been playing the same time period over and over. However if it is random its strange I havent seen anything yet. I'll keep playing and just see what happens. |

The Weather in the Pacific ASAIK is pretty much warm year around. I wonder, is there FOG in this game? Not that rendered 'foggy' stuff from EE, but real London heavy type fog as was in SH3. I never seen it yet. Though I have seen rain. |

I've surfaced off the coast of Honshu twice in major storms. Once I actually cruised into the harbor at Fukuoka at night in a blinding rain storm. Kind of fun. They never saw me coming. (Of course I couldn't take my photo recon pictures until daylight. And it was still overcast then.)
