boost from submarine school?

After unpacking installing and immediately driving off a sub and playing with it for a few days, I eventually started reading the manual. In the Submarine school section it states " Completing Submarine School missions is not mandatory, but it gives you a bootst when starting a new campaign". I remember that with SH3 you could get something like a 2500 renown bonus if you had finished all tutorial missions, but I couldn't figure out what bonus you get in SH4. It seems you can choose 1000, 2000 or 5000 renown to start with, regardless of having done any submarine school missions. Any thoughts?
