How can you tell how much reknown a crewmember will cost?

Hi all,

I am trying to puzzle out the reknown expediture stuff. I selected a few crewmembers that I thought were going to cost 50 or 20 reknown yet my reknown amount dropped by over a thousand.

Yes, if you hover your mouse over them some info on them pops up in 'tool-tip' fashion. One of the items of info is Renown.
