Default need some advice.....

I was testing around in avoiding mines. My problem is to detect the mines.
But the only thing i found out is that i can use an UUV and listen if it explodes.
This isnt the thing i want because if i launch an UUV the enemy possibly gets
my position or he knows then that there is something out there. The same is when i
use the active Sonar. So it seems to me that the only way i can detect mines
is to drop my stealth.

So here is my question is there a way to detect mines with only passive sensors?

Use your Hi-frequency sail mounted sonar, its in the helm station. You can pick up the mines on the set there, and its unlikely to reveal your position.

You can also use torpedoes and set them to ACTIVE....

Torpedoes really make too much noise for 'keeping the stealth'.

But you can be smart .. for example there is stock mission where you have to get thru mines with sub .. it's simple because there is merchant who knows the mines-layout passing just at the moment .. simply follow him closely. In this mission you can ping as much as you want anyway, so it is not really needed, but it is nice tactic.

Or you could use a periscope if you suspect an enemy vessel around or again close close behind a merchant and have HF sonar on...
Saves the trouble...

Ok i have finished the testing for today :P

it works very well if i use an 688i or Akula Class Boat.
But whats about the Kilo or Seawolf Class?
Is there really the only way to use Pings, or an Torpedo?
Or some special tactics but that tactics only work IF there is another ship
how travels trough the minefield.
I was wondering why especially the Seawolf class havent a HF Sonar where i can look
whats in front of me. A Hypermodern Submarine for a couple of Billion Dollars how cant detect a simple mine without beeing detected? What a waste of money......

They do have it, just in different places. Check pages 10-21 and 12-27 in the manual (note, the manual suggests that other ships might detect this. In practice, that doesn't seem to happen in the game). The frigate also has it (7-28).

Seawolf can detect mines with a HF sonar, you can find it on the active sonar display, but you have to change the frequency of display from medium to high frequency. You can use HF when you're under ice also.
