For those who remember the early days of SHIII, you might remember that many of the subs beyond, say, the Type VII had much the same tolerences for crush depth, even though the boats were decidedly very different as the war progressed.
Given it looks like a lot more are starting to get the game, I'm just busting to know what our test/crush depths are looking like here. I noticed crush depth is unimpressive visually and especially in the sound department from the "first impressions" post, but I'm wondering whether a Gato starts crushing at Test depth of 300, or are we able to go down farther? Is it variable or static? So any word on this? Has anyone deliberately tested to see if if those builders did their job right? |

I'd like to know too, but don't confuse test depth with crush depth. If they were the same, every sub would be lost in trials

Crush depth should be roughly double the test depth. Emphasis on "roughly".

It may yet need tweeking. Time will tell. Happily we know this is possible as it was done really quickly in the mod community in SH3, so I'm not too worried. |

Regardless, this is considerably more than what they've got so far (from reports anyway, I don't have the game). But yeah, this'll likely be one of the first and probably one of the easier things, at least if it works the same as SH3, to mod. Quote:

damage has a more realistic effect than before. i took a holed sub down to 40, and it wasnt possible to come back up.
you really take your life in your hands now if you go under whilst damaged |

Further than that I can't say; but I agree in thinking that in the game they ought to be in some kind of feet!

IIRC Dick O'Kane brought the USS Tang down to 600' whilst supervising the sea trials of his boat.
