Most of the time I usually try and hit my targets in amidships, that way if I off one or another I still might hit. Done pretty good at hitting them there. I’ve been thinking that out of all my sinking I think I’ve only seen one ship that I’ve broken it’s back, and it was a medium to large size.
So I guess my question is what’s the trick in breaking them in two.

With what version of SH3?
Stock - You can always 'break their backs' by using a mag pistol and by setting the depth to 1 to 1.5m under the keel.(calm weather, adjust for different sea states) Supermods - GWX or NYGM - This has been made considerably harder to achieve. The same still applies however you are not assured a one hit kill due to the changes in compartment hit points.

I get very few broken backs. No matter, as long as they go down

Generally speaking you can still break a ship in two with a keel shot if it's relativelly small (like a Destroyer or a Small Merchant in GWX at least). If the ship is large then you will probably need more than one keel shots to sink it. To be honest I use keel shots only in desperate situations where I have a really bad AOB and I cannot hit the hull. As in real life you stand higher chances in actually sinking a target with a single torpedo by firing a well aimed shot at a "sweet spot" on the hull.

I was surprised to do it with the deck gun the other day on a small merchant. Went down very quickly.

![]() The same ruling still applies to keel shots and as Captain Nemo has stated most ships in GWX have a 'Sweet Spot' & if you can hit this then you can achieve a one hit kill. From my experience though, these are hard to find and not easy to replicate.

![]() Check your fish running depth and make a mental note of different keel depths of various ships. In WAC there's tons & tons of different ships so that never gets old. I may be guessing but are you trying to do this consistantly with 1 torpedo? To luck! ![]()
