Sneak into Murmansk.....

Where is this place?

Can anyone help?

Is it covered with mines and sub nets?

Murmansk is a Soviet harbour where the allied convoys are going to...

For the rest no idea, never been there, way too cold for me...

I look at the editor and could not find it.

Rob

Additional: Yep, I found it. Is it worthwhile going there in October 1944?

Yes, there's ships there and two convoy routes. The last time I went to Murmansk it was lightly guarded, that was in late '42 or early '43. I never had the nerve to go there in '44 though. Well, to be fair, I've never survived into '44.

Doing battle with those Red convoys up north is awesome. Horrific storms, bitter cold, the ultimate clash between communism and fascism, Allied task forces sailing up and down up and down along the coast of Norway and the air thick with planes. Man, it doesn't get any better than that.....

Thanks for the information.

I'm still in my patrol zone AN41 and I've downed 10 planes so far and one crash right behind the sub. WOW.

Isn't 1940 a bit early to attack Murmansk?

LOL, good point. Aren't you supposed to lose renown for sinking neutral ships?

This sounds very realistic. It seems they should have spent more money on U-Boot fleet rather than on Luftwaffe. Battle of Britain would have had a very different outcome.

No, really, is GWX too forgiving regarding the AI flakgunners? I remember seeing that NYGM has some tweaks regarding these. Doesn't GWX include anything similar?

I remember downing an aircraft in a single mission in GWX with 20/2 and 37 guns and AI crew, but on my patrols I never tried anything similar. Tried my luck with a fighter manually once (as it can't do too much damage) but saw that it doesn't pay so I resumed with the crash-dive technique. I don't miss the GWX tweaks regarding this as I don't use the AI flak gunners but shooting down 10 airplanes in a whole career would seem pretty unlikely (thus, rather silly), not to mention in a single patrol.

I can't help if it seems pretty unlikely, or silly, but the facts speak for itself. Watch my movies.

This one will not be out for a while yet as I'm not feeling well today.

Played two trips to Murmansk (March and July 1943). Not much guarding and an empty harbor. On my first trip I sunk two meager Soviet towboats, that's it. During my second trip I found a large convoy leaving Murmansk - and got sunk by the escorts.

The mean problem in that area is the long daylight during summer - I reckommend that tours "up there" should be made in the dark winter times, but than again it's up to the BdU to decide this.

Cheers,
AndyW
