Default anyone ever tried changing these files?

i was looking around the dats and i found the debris file. it has the models for the boxes that float to the surface and for i think the planes and trucks that fly off of the ships. i tried changing the obj for the large boxes to one i have created but got an immediate ctd on main game loading. it might be how I imported it as i still am baffled by pack 3d.
the dat file goes from about 4kb to like 50kb due to the model.

is changing these files actually possible?

thanks

As long as the model is correct, you should have little problems.
They have to be sectioned as triangles though.

When you export from Max, set the box for faces to triangles.
this is the LAST box that pops up on exporting.

This is that moment you can crush it with follow through or drop it with
falling out.

which reminds me I have to get back to hex 101

yay finally some results!
i have managed to change the models that the game uses for the debris boxes.
the game accepts models that are already in game e.g. the crewman model, but it wont accept my models. meybe something to do with hex strings or somthing complicated ill have a look round for some examples on the forum

If it's not accepting them, there is most probably something wrong with the model.
Post one somewhere and I can look at it if you wish.

Did you scale down the models to match sizes for SH3?
If not, import a box from the debris and scale yours to match.

yeh i scaled them. ill post the max scene on my filefront. http://hosted.filefront.com/thefretmaster/ you want any of the "manbox" files

also privateer im having a tad of trouble with your hex tut. i have got to the bit where i rename the object to Mine instead of NavalMine. i cant seem to find the right number to change to correct the size info. i went to block 76373 and went on 20 blocks so i was a t the set of 4. the number is 0. hex is crazy stuff

edit: either filefront is taking a while today, or my files arnt accepted. ill have a go at putting them somwhere else

You're scaled way too small!!
