Default Escort commander more pussy than me!

I think I've met the ultimate coward. Its jan 1940. Stumbled across a convoy off the north of ireland and after my usual cautious, will I wont I approach decided to attack on the surface. From what I can see theres only one escort although i cant be sure of the type cos he keeps running away! Set up on their port side at 2000m and fired 2 eels. 2 hits on 2 merchants which was a bit of luck cos i was aiming for 1 ship! Both now stationary but afloat. I then turned 180 and ran away. I mean retreated in a tactical way. Escort cruises on. I came back and decided to find a diff target I'll shell the disabled ones later. Medium merchant, 2 torps down she goes. Escort turns towards me I run away again and he turns back! Resisting the urge to fire a few rounds into his bridge in case I awaken a beast! Start shelling the two stricken merchants at close range while the crew reload the torps keeping an eye on my friend but apart from zig zagging with the convoy he's not interested. Down go the 2 ships. I put on full flank and race up the port side for another attack.
Now I've got 5 torpedoes in their tubes (4 really cos i cant hit jack with the stern tube with manual targeting), 4 hours i reckon till daylight and a chickens**t escort. I take out a pyro ship at the back of the crowd..... still nothing!!!!!! Now I'm not complaining because plenty of his friends would have no problem sinking my ass but I do feel a bit embarrassed for the RN. Its not like he cant see me he's only 3000m away and conditions are perfect. At this point I decided to go to bed but tonight theres gonna be a massacre! Sweet revenge for all the times I've gone down cursing. Is this a glitch or are there really stupid escorts programmed in? I smell an Iron Cross dont think theres enough tonnage there for a Knights Cross

If only I were so lucky...
Encountered a convoy off the east of England, Mar 1940. Got an intel update on a convoy that's within intercept range, so I do that.

First ship I detect is the flank escort (the starboard one), a V&W. I approach to 2km undetected and and fire a TII. It hits, and she goes down. I proceed on & spy a medium merchant, the rest are 1 small merchie & tramp steamers.

About to launch another attack when lookouts detect 2 more escorts approaching, at roughly ten and two o'clock. No choice, dive & slink away. But not before a good dc pasting.

This was a night surface attack btw, no moon. Later on I surface & do an end around, sink the small merchant, cripple the medium one which I shadow & subsequently sink by gunfire, after the convoy (& escorts) sail on.

I intend to grab this opportunity believe me. Was very cautious because I got sunk by an escort here in a convoy attack in an earlier career. Same deal only saw 1 escort but mind you he sank me pretty fast so there may have been more felt like he was using guided charges. One pass, bye bye birdie but now the worm has turned

It's got to be a glitch, i mean any time i attack a convoy the escorts are all over me like a rash. How ever i suppose during ww2 there would have been Skippers of escorts who thought is my ship worth getting sunk weird one.

I know it's rather impossible but could the escort been neutral, a US Navy ship e.g.? That would explain why you weren't attacked.

Were they flying the Swastika? If so... and no Knight's Cross for you my friend.

Just teasing, but keep us posted as to what happens in the follow-up.

Did US Navy ships escort english convoys that early? I could imagine that they did near their eastcoast, but off the coast of Ireland?:hmm:

Goddang it! I was hoping for a response more along the lines of 'your prob just a fantastic skipper who is making perfect use of moonlight and skill to stay undetected!' A glitch kind of takes away the gloss a bit. Ship sunk icons were red and cant imagine a german convoy sailing towards liverpool!!! Any last hopes its a dumb escort before I restart the patrol?

You're surely an outstanding Kaleun, but I've always been fascinated by such "riddles".

That is odd.

I had two destroyers run themselves aground the other day while trying to get me in a harbor. Hilarious.

By the way, I find your language in your thread title somewhat objectionable. You should have said "Escort commander more pussified than me." Please, we have some standards, you know.

I'll occasionally get an escort / harbour defense that will just circle me, pinging me for ages, but just won't attack. After a long time the air defences come in, and I figured that he was just reporting my position, but the bombing starts miles away from my position. Go figure.
