Default Just got my first IXC, Question about hunting

And I'm extremely happy about it But still being on my first patrol I have a question.
It's mid 41 so the East Coast of America is still off limits, Bdu is giving me patrols to the south Atlantic But I found nothing on my first patrol down there. What are the best hunting spots with the IXC before you can head to America?

The area around Cuba, Curacao and the Carribean. Also you can go outside Freetown or even in the cape of good hope. If you are really up for a challenge you can go to the area around Gibraltar.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Anywhere south, and/ or SW of freetown. Traffic from capetown and from the ports in africa's hip converge in that general vacinity. Theres also a large deepwater pocket just outside of freetown to the south of it where traffic will come through as well. You'll want to cruise submerged most of the time once you establish where the shipping routes are because hydrophones can hear farther then you can see.

Awesome thanks for the help. I discovered and hunted down several single merchants around Freetown, I'll try heading a bit further south when I resume my patrol.

On your way back home, cruise through the far West edge of DU for several sightings of un-escorted merchants sailing in pairs.

My last patrol (patrol 14) in mid 41 put me down in ET26 with IXB I had just picked up before going out.

My crew are all veterans at this point in the war so they adapted to the new boat great. I found some stragglers on the way, but all deck gun targets so still had a full complement of torps on deck and in the tubes.

I decided to raid freetown

I found a Large tanker, Passenger liner, TONS of tramp's and small merchants.

I took the first two huge tanker and liner, then picked off a small tanker, two tramps, and some other random stuff for some 38thousand tons!

Try that, but watch for the subnet, you have to go to where the ships are anchored at the EAST side to go around it. Don't shoot torps before or it will just catch them all.

Also there is shore batteries that will shell you if you try this on the surface.

You MAY be able to come in decks awash at night, but i doubt it. Plus the only reason you would want to do that is to use the deck gun, and the minute you fire one off they will all spotlight you.

Submerged is the only way

So Freetown is lightly defended as far as DD's? I was thinking of conducting a harbor raid there.

Remember to dive sooner to avoid being detected as type IXC is the slowest diver off all. I'm thinking abt switching to type IXC as well.

:rotfl:Too true. But it's so tempting to try.

I'm on patrol 19 and got there by not going into shallow waters, not running the channel, (well one time) And not forcing shots in a bad situation. But I'm itching to get to the U.S. to teach those Yanks a thing or two! So not sure if I should risk it with my IX career

I'm a U.S. citizen but my Kaleun alter ego wants to take it to those smug Yanks! they've flaunted their neutrality in our faces long enough!!!

I'll wait to raid harbors with my next career which will be a IIVC career.
It'll be a short but fun one!

Yeah I though the IXB was slow. I believe another Kaleun on these boards stated the dive time of the IXC was comparable to a Walrus sinking through jello?

seriously if you go through the bay of biscay in +42 at 256 TC with an IX class you have almost no chance of getting out
but i like it that way
or as the radio operator in down periscope: Arrrr
