I think you'll find that the look and detail of the ships and the animated on-board crews will significantly enhance the playing experience in SH4.

I heard about the animated crew. I also heard under attack they just keep strolling on the deck like a Caribean cruise. But you I don't care. I over look bugs in SH3 without issue so SH4 is fine

I'm honestly hoping it's just a beta thing. Surely even an animation of them ducking and disappearing off the deck will solve the problem fine and not be too complex to do for final version now :hmm:

In general, it's details like this that help add to the immersion in games. From some of the media I've seen, I think most will be pleasantly surprised.

I believe it will be one awesome game. I also believe the developers looked, listened and learned from SH3...especially listening to the community that are nuts over the game.

I think that, understandibly, the Devs reacted to the need for some level of on board crew activity without creating a monster for themselves. Bear in mind that if you are playing the game realistically, how much specific activity would you really see from your sub? Not much, but you would get a sense of activity, and depending on how badly the ship was hit, you might sometimes see life boats hitting the water.

Well SH3 seemed dead in that regard. If you play realistically in SH4, when you do see crew on decks etc it will be an experience.

Well, however realistically we do play it, I think the point is that even some of the most 'hardcore' among us love taking out the camera for screenshots and movies every once in a while.

I don't know, I'd be perfectly fine with the crewmen even just disappearing after a hit, but if the devs took the effort to animate them onto ships - I don't see why they can't likewise animate them off when needed. I just can't picture anything more silly than a dude strolling across a deck of a capsizing ship

I don't think you'll see them strolling around on a capsizing ship.

Okay, that's fine then. I agree otherwise that we're not playing a first person shooter here and it's alright to have the crew behaviour highly abstracted.
(And I'm sure that like in SHIII, when a ship blows up, they'll be flying high :P )
