Default Is there going to be a SH 4?

Hi.

I'm really getting into this game / sim, but I'm having problems installing all the mods that people here seem to like.

I've been reading posts about AOTD etc... and how some people are bored with the core SH3 as it is, and that the amazing modders can only do 'so' much without rewriting Ubisofts codes...

And it seems there isn't going to be another official patch, so does anyone have any reliable info as to whether Ubisoft are going to continue this franchise and if so when?

I have tried to email their support dept to ask this question (not support I know, but these days NO-ONE seems to want you to know their email address, let alone busy developement teams, and I 've not had any reply.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Rebecca

No news so far, at least that I've heard, and this site would be the first to hear it, I'm sure.

Tell us about the problems, we can usually solve them!

Hi Gizzmoe

Thank you for your kind offer, but I'm afraid the list is very long and muddled to say the least - I've uninstalled / installed SH3 several times now trying to get back to a 'virgin' state before installing mods that I think I might like, but I keep getting weird hangs - no CTD's just when using compression on the map screen transiting to an area it will pause, then the sound / music cuts off and lo' and behold... I've got to switch my pc off / on.

Sometimes however, I think it's gonna do it because it pauses and the sound goes but it will come back.. like it got too wrapped up in itself and then sorts it all out and comes back to me.

Most of the time though it just hangs.

My spec was posted recently and I think it's a pretty good spec, so I can't see it being that.

Maybe just incompatibility between mods...

I've just d'loaded the Uboat Improved Beta mod (147mb compressed one) and I'm gonna try putting that over my newly clean install.

Doesn't help with my campaign though - I'm through to about 1943 with 62% realism, it's just making it so frustrating to play - every time I sit down with a few hours to throw at it, I spend most of my time, rebooting the pc, uninstalling / installing and copying back my campaign that it's taking the shine out of it.

Maybe I should just play it clean and forget about mods...

Thanks anyway.

Shame no news on SH4...

BTW Did WW2 subs ever take on other WW2 subs - underwater? That's the only thing I miss in this sim since coming over from Sub Command... but the graphics and level of immersion with your virtual crew is totally awesome...

There is a bug in the standard game that causes crashes on the nav map (especially if you're scrolling fast), so it may not be a mod that's causing this problem. I've found it best to always scroll the map slowly.

The only problems I've had with hangs is with that program that stops and starts services, etc. before launching the game. I've noticed that if I let it defrag memory, it causes problems.

Are you using anything like that?

Have you tried to lower the hardware sound accelleration as it was suggested in your first thread?

Do you have any programs running while you play SH3, like antivirus, ICQ or a firewall?

Just FYI, today or tomorrow there will be a new version of IUb.

I think it´s best to make a clean install, then install patch 1.4b, after that copy the main SH3 dir to a safe place. If something breaks all you need to do it to delete the main SH3 dir and copy back the backup dir. That´s much faster than uninstalling/reinstalling.

As far as I know this never happened. A few subs were attacked by others subs while surfaced, but even that didn´t happen very often.

Strangely enough, U-864 was sunk off Bergen by a British sub, while both were submerged. They found the wreck just recently. I noticed this on uboat.net:
http://www.uboat.net/boats/u864.htm

Check out the images of the wreck. Very creepy. Especially the stern suspended above the sea bed. That means an air bubble is trapped in it. I wonder what's in it? Although I have a pretty good idea.

Interesting info! But I guess they had spotted the sub via the periscope first?!? Or was it a "real" submerged attack (sound contact only)?

A bit of both, it seems. Have a read of this:

Yes. Didn't fix it unfortunately. I turned it down / off and rebooted, played until it crashed 2 times, then turned it back on.

Er, yeah, just turned MS firewall on the other day, but I've had these crashes since I've stated modding... I do have Panda antivirus running but I've had the crashes before installing that too.

Very cool - where does it get posted first?

Cool. Good idea - I was worried about cross referencing files between the bits stored in My Docs and that in Data but if that's not a worry this is a perfectly simple and quick - Thanks!!!

No mods, no crashes??? :hmm: Which mods have you tried? Sometimes it´s important to install them in the correct order. Always install the mod that makes the most changes first, like RUb or IUb.

I would have thought that the VIP at this year's meeting would have dropped a hint or two about SH4. ..at least in regard to whether or not there will be an SH4. My information is that Ubi, while not being too excited at the world sales figures for SH3, did think that the product sold well enought to proceed with SH4.

He did say "something", but the people who where there are not allowed to talk about it.
