Best Patrols to DATE! (GWX)

So i'm convinced GWX career's are the most authentic experience you can have to this stuff without being there...

Patrol's 1-5 were ok... i'm starting at the earliest point in the war of course.. Sank a few things, REALLY beefed up my aircraft destruction skills on some poor british bombers who lined up way to early leaving me with a stationary target to practice with

Patrol 6 I sank 8 ships, 6 were large merchants for a total of 50690 tons of just merchants!

Patrol 7 got me a Knights cross for sinking another two large merchants plus what looked like some brand new frigates.

Patrol 8 was my finest hour yet I ran across a convoy between north / south ireland in that little choke point. The convoy was only escorted by two armed trawlers and two flower corvettes. Took out the flowers first by luring them in with high RPM's and sticking my periscope up like a pole. They zig, zag and finally settle up on a final bearing RIGHT about 500m out. This gives me just enough time to snap off a magnetic right under the keel.

The two armed trawlers are much slower chugging towards at only 10knots. They try and zig but end up meeting the same demise. Afterwards I have a convy of 12 ships for my deck gunning pleasure

I took out 8 of the 12 before running out of deck gun ammo. Also took down two planes that flew in trying to help me to the bottom. After radioing a contact report every time I sank another, I finally saw two german destroyers start shelling the remaining 4 ships afloat. It was EXHILARATING!

I'm ahead of EVERY other captain in the uboat aces so far in the war. And i'm playing with every bit of realism except I use my external camera, weapon officer and map updates. Granted I tweak every torpedo shot to the last detail since I shoot at zig'ing targets regularly.

Boy this is fun...

Ahh the happy times..

All things those real aces didn't have. Call back with how good you are when you're playing realistically.

They're great numbers. Much better than mine, and I play with Weapons Officer and external cameras. I just won't talk about how I'm better than the aces until I'm doing it the way they did.

I'm not a 100%er, and I'm in awe of those who are.

true my bad on challenging ace numbers.

I retract that portion of my statement as I would definatly not have performed this well under real U-boat conditions trying to do all that math with the TDC and all from within a conning tower :\

Sure is fun though... I got lucky with these convoys in this pre-1941 ease

@ digitizedsoul,

Turn off the external camera... and you enter a whole new world of fear.

Start your career in 1943... and you'll be lucky to come home.

Try both and you'll get a taste of realism.

Eventually you'll get tired of easy tonnage... and want more of a challenge... you'll see.

Playing realistically will grow on you... just like mold.

Well I am trying to gain as much tonnage as possible in this career and go to the end of the war if possible.... at least see how far I can get...

I NEVER plan to put myself between a destroyer and a shallow bottom or any other situation that I cannot escape from that way I survive till the end...

Oh... freaking YESSS, Herr Kaleun... I don't use the external camera, however the temptation is strong, usually after I read someone's else report about evading escorts and watching their maneuvers... With the cam it would be easier, but it would be such a fun never more. Or such a horror.

Next step would be to switch map contact updates OFF. The effect would smash you, I suppose, as you would feel like a completely blind man under water - your hydrophone experience would be totally different. But eventually after you learn to use your sonar in a new manner you'd prefer to 'see' with hydrophone rather than with your eyes.

After a smashing end of your boat in this carrer your plan for the next is going to be: to gain any tonnage and to stay alive till the end of this PATROL.

Good luck!

Well of course, but I didn't spend 349857389$ on all this crap you need to play DX9+ games these days so I can just stare at bernards face inside the hull

I know sh3 isn't dx9 but you see the point.

However for realism it definatly matters.

I think the hardest part for me without external camera would be identifying targets by flag. By the time I get close enough to do that usually i'm a gonner.

The way I play now works great considering I have 3 machines setup, and usually finish work stuff on one, surf the web on the other while sh3 is plowing through the seas on the main one. There can be some idle moments even when time compressing
