Default Depth charges don't hurt me at all - god mode?

May 1940, IXB, grids west of gibraltar, patrol 4th.

I got depthcharged about 7 times with various effects:
- deck gun damaged (repaired),
- flak gun damaged (repaired),
- attack periscope destroyed (completely and that one was destroyed when rammed),
- leaks in some compartments (aft torpedo room, diesel engine room, central-management room),
but... my hull integrity is still 100%.

At first I thought it's a bug or that the "hull integrity indicator" doesn't work anymore. I was affraid that the hull is damaged indeed but that was not reported. I decided to do a risky check and dove till 250 metres deep. No leaks, no warnings and that proofed my boat is in perfect state (but the scope).

How come that? Is that possible to be depth charged, have leaks and damages parts of boat and be still h.i. 100%? Isn't that a bug?

Did you check the realistic vulnerability in the realism settings? If you don't your boat can take much more punishment than it could in reality

I play 101% realism settings and I never alter them, so I'm sure "realistic damage" is on. It's always been on.

*pulls out thinking cap*

If i screw this explantion up forgive me, i havent had coffee yet.

Depth charges have alot of variables, but the primary variables that apply to your wondering, "What the hell?!" MinRadius and max radius.

The min radius is usually around 4.5 meters

The max radius being anywhere from 12 to 40 meters (stock).

How much damge a depthcharge does is dependant on its proximity to your uboat.

IN this example lets say a depth charge has a 4.5 min radius and a 18 max radius.

If a depth charge explodes near your boat anwhere from 0 to 4.5 meters, it does FULL damage.

After 4.5 meters up to 18 meters, its damage is dimished. Being the strongest at 4.6 meters, and the weakest at 18 meters. At 19 meters, you won't receive any damage at all.

Your uboat is basically a collection of components, that all have hitpoints. Some things have more hitpoints then others. errr acutally heres where things get fuzzy to me, so ill stop there. The sum of it is, is you'll get more equipment damage then hull damage - which is historically correct.

Now if i depth charge lands close,.. oh yes, you'll feel that one as your forced to go ALOT shallower, or surface altogether.

In the course of messing around depthcharge/zone.cfg settings in the past, ive had alot of fun with this. One time i had both my periscopes destoryed, all equipment on deck (flak guns, deck gun, snorkel), destroyed a diesal engine AND my bow hydroplanes. (yet no hull integrity damage as i recall)

Every try surfacing a boat on an out of control dive because its taken on too much with no bow hydroplanes? That took some quick thinking.

(of course, i didnt live either, i was summarly executed when i reached the surface)

Don't worry, they'll get you at some point!

I thought the same and then just when I was getting a bit cocky, BAM, two DCs destroy my boat.

There is (realistically-speaking, that is) a big difference between having external equipment (flak & deck guns, attack & observation 'scopes) damaged by depth charges, and having a several centimeter thick steel pressure hull damaged. I imagine you could have the whole top of your watch tower rammed off without significantly affecting pressure hull integrity.

THanks for the replies, guys. Now I know that it wasn't any 'god mode'... A few other rounds of depth charges worked well - took me down to 240 metres with leaks, h.i. 79% and I had to blow ballast in the last moment... Luckily still floating, on my next patrol...

A lot of upper hull damage can be superficial and repairable which means it won't impact on your pressure hull integrity.
Having said that I agree with Ducimus in post #5

But...what the hell!!....you've just learned all the above
