By WO do you mean Watch Officer when surfaced or Weapon Officer all the time ?

PS I voted no because I don't use Weapon Officer assistance and because until last 2.4 version which I didn't play yet, the Watch Officer in NYGM didn't give the range. Didn't play GWX enough yet to know how it works, all my attacks until now have been submerged. Now the range in NYGM is back in 2.4 from what I read but by now I'm used to do without...

I use the Weapons Officer. I also have Map Updates on. I also use the Assisted Plotting mod, which gives realistic updates, like you can't see anything on the map that you haven't identified.

Why? With Assisted Plotting, ships get marked on the map exactly as the are in real life-one ship at a time.:p

Yes, I ask the First Watch Idiot the range because of my laziness. But (there are always some buts [shouldn't I spell it butts?]):
- he is too accurate, he can measure the distance very precisely even at like 8 km distance.
- he can measure the distance so precisely even before I identify the ship (and that's quite amazing, he's a master...),
- he's totally blind. He usually sees nothing till I show it to him with my finger (lock with 'L' button).

I'd like hime to learn some new abilities:
- tell me the distance to a ship I POINT, not to the closest one,
- shut the &^%# up when not asked to repeat his annoying reports.

But to say the truth, I like him... My best officer and I'll never let him be transfered - BdU would have to kill me before. And I love my First Watch Idiot name - Herbert Mientus ('Mientus', or more properly spelled 'Miêtus' is a 'spearmint candy' in Polish. ).

I also think the Watch Officer is way too accurate, and thats why I dont use his assistance at 100 percent realism. anyway, I think he should announce an approximative range to target at least... lets say in tousands meters (range to target 7000 m... 6000 m) or something like this.

I would like to quote Dantenocs oppinion that I share with him. He said once:

This is probably why the WO range to target was reintroduced in last NYGM 2.4 version...

I dont play NYGM, so I dont know what exactly do you mean by "reintroduced"? it works now as it used to work in the stock game or as it works now in GWX?

I agree he's way to accurate. That's why I don't talk to him until after I've identified the target. I usually don't shoot from outside of 500 meters, so I don't ask him until I'm ready to shoot. I still miss sometimes.

In the NYGM versions up to 2.3, the range giving function of the WO was totally disabled. When you asked for a report on nearest sighting, he would only give you the bearing.
In the last version 2.4, after lots of thinking about it, this range function is re-enabled , with an optional mod for disabling it again for players who want to continue living without.
