Default Oh my!

I just got depth charged by a Bear bomber! How neat! I don't remember it doing that before.

LW just told me today that he's noticed some improvements in AI that have been made.

SCS can be sneaky like that sometimes.

I've been noticing that too. I'd also swear that a helo dipped too, although I didn't have "show truth" on at the time, so I can't say for certain. I definitely detected a higher frequency active sonar coming from the approximate bearing of a helo and it wasn't a torpedo.

Yes, the way the Sim tracks order priority for platforms has been significantly improved.

For A/C's and helos this means they will utilize their weapons much more effectively and be much more aggressive. In terms of dipping, the stock helos retain their active sonars, but they are not utilized at all by the doctrines.

So, stock helos won't dip intentionally, although if a helo flys low enough, it may drag its dipping sonar, although I don't see why it would be active.

Cheers,
David

PS And yes depth charges work very nice.

Near where the USS Pompano, USS Wahoo and USS Runner were sunk during World War Two, right between the SOJ and the Sea of Okhotsk. Why?

The thing I noticed, after I heard the ping and flipped to "show truth" to see what was happening because it was obviously something new, was that he pinged too far from me. It was odd because even though he'd seen me earlier (he'd dropped a torpedo on me a few minutes ago) he pinged well outside of what I figured the AOU surrounding my datum was. Unless his estimate of his sonar range was quite long, I'm not sure that was the best tactic for him to use.

So far, I haven't heard him do it again, although who knows? I've been playing the mission for a couple of days now (real time, not sim time). The mission ought to last about 16 hours of sim time, so who knows what will happen next?

I want to recreate the senario as best as possible to further home my airborne ASW skills, and to see what went wrong for the sub, how it would react appropriatly, and find a way around that.

It's probably best that I just e-mail it to you since there was a lot more to it than that. I'm still testing this one out and it's still sort of rough. It's not complicated, though. You just transit the choke point.

There were ship-based helos coordinating with MPAs. They haven't sunk me yet, but it's definitely been a little tense.

SQ, dipping behavior has been completely disabled in game, so don't look for intelligent behavior in it.

You can check the doctrines yourself, all the elements of the doctrines that relate to helo dipping (carried over from Sub Command) have been commented out, and the target doctrine that actually initiates the dipping behavior, although present, is never called by an active doctrine, so it's never run by the Sim.

Cheers,
David

So I guess what happened is a mystery of the deep?

It was definately a helo flying too low (about 75ft or under). I've looked at the stock doctrine and its likely the active pinger was on if the helo was prosecuting a contact.

The sensor is still there, but in stock DW it's purely vestigial because all the dipping instructions are disabled so the MH60 when controlled by the FFG doesn't go flying off on its own.

Why they didn't just make a second doctrine, I'll never know. Then again, the stock dipping commands don't work either, so I guess they figured some modder would take care of it eventually. Go figure.

Cheers,
David
