I have a laptop computer with an ATI radeon mobile Express 200 video card with 125 of shared RAM. Is it possible to replace this @#^&@!! thing with a real video card or an external video card?

I think you need to check with the laptop manifacturer (or any serious computer store). The problem with laptops is that everything is integrated on the motherboard. There are some graphics cards that can be changed or even upgraded (more RAM etc) but it's difficult. Each manifacturer changes the card settings and architecture to suit his design. That's why with laptops it's not one size fits all. Good Luck

Laptop upgrades are tricky. Best thing I think would be to check out the manufactures site and see what options the model in question has. Then find out if you can get the same/similar card on newegg to save a few $

If it's graphics on a laptop, don't get your hopes up. Maybe one laptop ever made can do that.

Thanks all; I was afraid of that. Too bad someone can't come up with an external video card for use with computers.

I have tried several driver sets and the latest Omega drivers based on ATI release 7.1 look and work the best. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your CPU as well and disable as many running programs as possible before launching the game. For a notebook, the graphics look pretty good and the game is definitely playable. I'm running it at PERFORMANCE setting (far left) in the 3d ati control panel settings. Hopefully, as I continue to tweak away I can bump it up a notch or two. Unfortunately, my integrated graphics and sound share the same IRQ. If I can find an easy way to move the sound to a different IRQ perhaps I will get better performance. However, I don't think XP like's that idea too much. Cheers |
