Default Seagates perpendicular drive line are pretty dang fast!

I figured I'd upgrade one of my RAID's recently in my box that I use to manipulate video - I constantly move 4 GB + files around on this box. So i bought a couple Seagate perpendicular based HD's that use the new 3 Gb/sec connections and wow! Low and behold, it hit 111 MB/sec sustained!!! Wow! I'm blown away by that!!! Here are some #'s so that you can compare! I'm still a little in shock if you can't tell. My old RAID was already pretty impressive at 80 MB/sec sustained.

Yes, indeed I'm looking forward to replacing my old 100GB Maxtor with this little 320GB from Seagate.

ST3320620AS
Seagate 320GB Barracuda 7200RPM 16MB Buffer SATA2 Serial ATA II 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive ST3320620AS
[Warranty: 5 years]
$91.00

It just came in last friday, but I've haven't backed up everything yet.

They said to make sure the HDD's from Seagate come from Singapore,
because the ones from China have been making strange noises.
I looked on the back already and it came from Singapore.

Keep them cool too ... Wish I could afford Raid though

Mine are Chinese crap. I was a little disappointed when I opened the box and saw they were from China. I'd pay more $$$ for them if they offered me a choice since the HD that I am replacing was a Chinese dud. The new ones are pretty quiet though, quieter than my older ones, and quite a bit faster and do have the 5 year warranty (one of my criteria for purchasing them)

I still have 2 Seagates - a 40 GB (the quitest consumer 3.5" 7200 RPM hard drive ever made), and a 120 GB that are both from Signapore and both still work.

My Chinese ones - all dead or dying and of course they are also out of warranty.

99% of everything that comes form CHina = crap so you can bet I will have to use that 5 year warranty - probably once a year I'll need to use it! Its not that China couldn't build better products, but that they hold cheap above quality. If they can build something cheaper while sacrificing quality, they will.

Guess what? AMerica and the rest of the world funds this mentality too!
