Is there any way to stop it?
I've taken my first bit of damage in GWX and my men are up to there ankles, but my repair crew is running around like the keystone kops getting nothing accomplished. I was stalking a convoy in heavy fog when a DD came charging out of the soup and landed a couple charges closer than I'd like....thus causing a bit of flooding. I've escaped (I think) to a couple 1000 meters away and 100m deep, ordered out of silent running, yet my crew seems to be doing nothing to repair. Can I save my boat?

Ok, first of all and I think you did it, get out of silent running. Get your men to the damage control room (F7 key and upper lefthand corner). Get an officer in there as well. Remember, your best men will repair faster and last longer. At this point it is survival so the best guys in there will help!!!! PUMP LIKE HELL!!!!!!

One thing though, will I get any type of visual conformation that they are working on the flooding? Edit: Von Hesse answered that, but I may have an issue then, because I'm not getting the wrench. ![]()

Make sure you are no longer "silent running" (hit "z" or "y" depending on your keyboard), click the damaged compartment in THE SMALL U-Boat PICTURE, not in the large one! Then you should see the little wrench symbol alright.
Cheers, AS

you get the wrench when you click on the compartment needing repair.

Also if there are multiple compartments flooding look at how long each will take to fix and get them on the one with the highest number first. Once you've stopped the flooding in that compartment, then get them to the next leak and so on.
You will then have a bunch of partly flooded compartments. Man the pumps and put them in the deepest water first until you've emptied out all your compartments of water. Then pray that the DD's have gone so you can get to the surface for some air! |

Shouldn't that be the one with the lowest number, since (I think) that indicates the time taken for the compartment to flood completely (& from bitter experience, all will be lost when that happens). I am referring to the icon that appears in the left of the affected compartment, on the main U-Boat pic in the F7 screen.
I was attacked by an Anson off the NE coast of UK, and had damage in several compartments. My damage control method was to tackle the flooding first, then repair whatever could be repaired underwater, starting with critical components such as batteries and diesel engines. You will see an icon on the left of the compartment being repaired - if I'm not mistaken that is the time taken to stop the flooding of the compartment. Or is that the time taken to pump it dry? |

I believe the time to pump it dry. The reason I say this because sometimes if you watch the clock sometime it will increase in time and fluctuate around. Sometimes it is so bad the clock just keeps climbing as the water flows in

Thanks all.
Alrighty then, looks like my repair crew was just undermanned. Once I assigned more petty officers the pumping icons came up and the wrenches started to turn. All for moot though. I was able to get the flooding under control and stop the free fall at about 150m, but by the time I was half way into repairing the mechanical damage, the DD brought friends....that decided to pummel me into submission. I hate you GWX! ![]()

It would help you a lot if you got one of your senior officers qualified in 'Repair'

I believe that the symbol to the left (in a damaged, flooding compartment) shows the remaining time to stop additional flooding. The symbol to the right indicates remaining time to full compartment flooding (and thus death). These are visible in the main view of your boat at the F7 screen. There is an additional timer shown when you click on the damaged compartment, at the bottom, and that is the remaining time to pump the compartment dry.

AVH is right. What i'm saying is you need to concentrate on stemming the flow into the one that is filling fastest otherwise you'll end up wiht that one full and no way to get it dry later or a bunch of dead crew. This is how damage control should operate. Get onto the fastest flooder first then once it stops flooding move to the next worst one and so on.
