Default first venture into scapa.

its late 39, new career, new type VIIB and i decided as i had to crest england to venture in the the dreaded scapa flow. after sitting at PD and running at 3 kts for the entire entry, avoiding so many DD's my sonar picture looked like a flattened millipede type of hybrid spider.
so i avoid some close calls (in daylight no less) and finally get to scapa port.

and there's nothing there.
not a sausage. not a single ship, not even a fishing boat....

talk about peaved.

i made for the westerly exit and sank a destroyer on the way just out of anger...

PAH!

still when i got out of scapa i sank two c2's so it wasn't all bad....
pshht.
gonna try locke ewe next.

Well, look at it this way: You have lost your Scapa-virginity!
Now you can join the "Been there, done that" club.

I tried Scapa in 39. First patrol in GWX. I play DiD and few destroyers were about. They knew I was there but could not find me. Anyway, it was night/clear. One destroyer went past me at 500m. I was on the surface. He did not see me. (some say the AI are too good at detection). I don't believe it after getting that close without being detected. Anyway, I ran away. I was not tempting fate after that close encounter.

I thought Scapa was difficult in GW 1.1a, but to be honest: I havent dared to entered that place in GWX. I never thought a submarine simulation game could truly open the gates of hell, but when you are in shallow waters and those GWX DD's come crushing down on you.....look at it like this:
I have also played F.E.A.R (and that was scary!), and that game is NOTHING compared to GWX..GWX gives me that anxiety/choching/pure frightening feeling no other game have given me to this date..
So, Scapa is a place i have to go next time im drunk & brave....

Well, that is the thing that has come about. Destroyers not letting you go. People need to realize that the not every move to evade worked out for the u-boats. For some reason everyone thinks that you should be able to evade ALL the time. Sometimes it just ain't going to happen. The arcade warships are gone!

Seth, I think some people are getting some reality checks here with the new warships. The old go silent and run away crap is gone. Now you must actually evade or hope to evade and accept the fact that one day you may not be able to evade concerning the GWX warships. It is just one reality of the u-boat that we are experiencing with GWX's warships. It is awesome. Come on people, the u-boat was not always able to evade and furthermore they would keep your tight arse down for as long as possible. Some think they should just leave right after they lose contact. Never happened and does not happen in GWX. Boo hoo! Seth, spread the word! The arcade destroyes are gone!

I couldnt agree more! The intensity of GWX is so close to reality that you could get, and i like it! You actually have to think before doing anything, and thats what a simulator is all about!!
