Default Two questions about sounds

Hi friends,

I have two questions regarding sounds in SH3:

1) Would It be possible to remove background conversations? In the most critical moments when I shot a torpedo I am hearing some conversations like if I am drinking a beer in a bar in a friday with my friends.

2) Do you know how to put custom songs in gramophone? I want to include a list with amazing tunes like this one:

Where I can get this amazing song and how to put it in the gramophone?

Thank you. I am an engineer with 1 year jobless. Please, give a reason to this poor man to smile again.

Default Isn't being alive reason enough to smile?

Well, maybe not always.

But, on to the questions...

1). Yes. Open the "data\Sound" folder and look for the "amb_SubmarineInterior" wav file. Simply renaming it (just add a number to the end of the file name) will stop it from running in-game. My GWX "Sound" folder has several of those files; the optional ones are numbered 0-3. Any app that you have which can open/play wav files will let you "sample" all of the ambient interior sound files; then you can choose one that you prefer...there are some that are much less like a beer hall on a Saturday night.

2). In the same "data\Sound" folder you'll find the "Gramophone" folder. You can place any MP3, wav or ogg music file you have in there and it will play when you start the Gramophone. But, be aware that the game prefers ogg...I've encountered problems with a couple of MP3 files that just didn't play well, while others did. The song you're looking for is "It's a Long Way to Tipperary". IIRC there is one version that comes with GWX, but I don't think it's the one you're looking for, from the movie. That one, and some other versions of "...Tipperary", are available in the Downloads section of subsim.

BTW, even though changing sound files doesn't seem to cause problems, make sure you are inport and the game isn't running when you start exploring folders and tweaking files.

What supermod, if any, are you using? I use GWX, but I've replaced the entire sound set with the Das Boot Sound Mod. It contains a very long loop for background sounds that are all whispers. It's there, but only when you listen for it.

Another option is to replace the file with the original game file. It's in the SH3/Data/Sound folder, and it's called amb_SubmarineInterior.wav. The original is a very short loop of water gurgling past the hull. The Third option is to remove that file altogether. It's been my experience that removing those .wav files have no detrimental affect at all. Others may have had problems with that, so Option 4 is to download a free sound program such as www.goldwave.com and create a blank file to replace it with.

Be aware that if you remove or blank the file there will be no background sound at all, which can be very strange.

Songs should be all one file type, with .ogg being the best. Here again a sound program can change anything from MP3 to .ogg with no trouble. Then you just insert it into the SH3/Data/Sound/Gramophone folder and you're good to go. Here you'll find hundreds of songs, period and otherwise, ready to go. I don't know if that version of the Tipperary Song is among them, but in the 'German Hits' there is an original from the WW1 era. Lots of good stuff there.

From another thread that I read, apparently "The Tipperary" song was an inside joke among the submariner community because it was the last song played on the Athenia before she was sank. (ref: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show....php?p=2380045)

If true, it brings new light to why it may have been regularly played at sea, even though maybe only the oldest of sea dogs would've known why.

Hello Incendio. I have no more to add to the very good advice above. You can just have a look in my signature for good and also funny German music to listen at sea.

All the best.

Alternatively, you can just decrease the volume of the file in question,by S3D,I found it while I struggled desperately with seagulls in the fjords around Bergen,in 1944 .... Later I saw that there are such mod...
There are quite successful, but you just have to look for them and to like something here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...p?do=cat&id=25 or here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...171019&page=23
as noted and other captains

There are many online and not just programs that can convert a file or application output file -wave,ogg,stereo or mono

I am sorry if sometimes I take some time to answer, it´s not a lack of respect,
I'm going through bad times.

Hi Incendio
There are 13 Das Boot tracks in the gramophone folder.
The track you want is number 11.
Just copy and paste what you want to your gramophone folder.
