I usually let windows chose how much memory they want to use and I never had any problems

I used to do that also....but I was getting a virtual memory running low error msg....so I set it higher.....I remember in another thread that I was advised to set it as high as possible....but like I said....I seem to remember being able to set it around 4000 if I remember right....and now I can only go as high as 3072...and I was wondering why.....

I'm having low virtual memory warnings as well some times and i have only 512MB RAM, but I never had any real problems in the game. That's why I never bothered changing it.

IMHO let windows run the memory. Change it if you have a problem. Since you reformated you will probably not have a problem.

I have my HD in partions.
C part handle only the virtual memory cuz that is the first block any program etc will look for or use.
Then ive installed windows on D

So i dont have same partion whit windows and the virtual memory.

This way ive done it handle the virtual memory faster.

Ive set it to 5 gig also.

I dont know why you cant go higher. Maybe you can only raise to a % part of your HD space.

Default Virtual Memory

Go to Systems under Control Panal and you'll find a way to set virtual memory.

If I recall correctly, the rule of thumb is 1 1/2 to 2 times your real memory for the minimum virtual memory and double that for the maximum memory.

For example: if you have 768 you'd set virtual minimum at 1152 to 1536 and then double maximum at 2304 to 3072.
