Default Retired to a desk?

I’m running GW with SH3Commander, which I like very much, thanks to those who are responsible.
I just came out of my 10th mission with 103,000 total tons on my career list, not too great, I’m not at the top of the tonnage leaders but not at the bottom either. Except for my last mission, where I came home with 65% hull integrity, I’ve only had two other mission with 95% hull integrity the rest were 100%. Well at the end of my last mission I was told to relinquish my command of u551 to my second in command and head to Kiel to the U-boat training. I didn’t think I was doing that bad that I had to go back to U-boat school. All that work to get there, I was kind of ticked off, the button on the SH3com wasn’t active, I had to take a walk,, later when I came back and opened the SH3com I noticed a high lighted line under my career that said something about being retired, I clicked on it and it asked me if I was bored and tired sitting behind a desk and if I wanted to continue on with that career…………………………..boy was I happy. You guys know how to put a scare in me

Its not a demotion. It's a promotion. Your captain was being bumped up the ranks and was to head up training for new crews in Kiel. Real captains didn't do more than 10-15 patrols anyways.

It wasn't a bad thing

Running Patched vanilla..

I just finished my 21st. patrol and only have 800K tons, but am worried about being forced into retirement.. I'm not running SH3 comander, but will hopefully be able to make it through the war without conning a desk I've been in serious scrapes lately and even returned with 9% hull a couple of patrols ago (Sinking 79K tons saved my hide, I bet)

Glad you're back out to sea

I believe you need the Commander mod for your career to end up at a desk job.

Default Promotions

If you're running SHIII Cdr, isn't it possible to choose whether or not you will receive such promotions? I seem to recall an option you can choose for that.

If the option to "Simulate Realistic Career Length" is checked, you'll recieve these types of promotions randomly based on the number of days spent at sea. As the number of days goes up, so do your chances of getting bumped up the ladder.

Where you go and what you do upon retirement is based on your rank. If you are retired at the rank of KptLt or above, you will find yourself given command of a Training Flotilla.

If you're retired at ObLt or below, you will simply be reassigned to a Training Flotilla as senior instructor or similar.

But that is not the end - SH3Cmdr essentially builds a life for the Commander until he dies. So you may find that after front-line retirement you shot up through the ranks and retired from the military as an Admiral or some other senior rank...or you became a taxman... LOL!
