Default U-boat hunter groups

Later in the war the allies formed elite destroyer groups to hunt down U-boats with great success. How well is this simulated in SH3? I have yet to encounter an escort group which can put up a real fight.

I really can't agree with you there!! You will occasionally come across a group of between 3-6 ships in various combat areas....let them get a sniff of you and see what a 'real fight' is

Doubly or quadruple more so in GWX when it's released

Well then I know what to expect, usually after a convoy attack I've had one or two escorts to deal with so far. 6 ships on my tail will probably nail me..

Well it can be done
Found a convoy in the med in 44
Too bravado and was spotted
Had 5 US DE all over me but managed to go deep and escape
Took some DC damage
Luckily for me the other DE stayed with the convoy

Didnt last long as died just of Alexandria
Shallow water and 1 DD :rotfl:

Using TGW1.1a and have seen in late '42 a hunter group in the Bay of Biscay. They are easy to deal with as long as they don't see or hear you. Once they do look out! The bay is not quite deep enough to get below the DC's and I've died more times that I like to remember at their hands. I think they represent Capt. "Johnny" Walker's hunter group. They are usually a mix of River class frigates and Hunt2's or 3's.

Are hunterkiller groups named "task force" on the map? (Yes i cheat and use map contacts :P) If so, ive seen one in 1940. 5 destoryers running around in the north sea at 30-35knots...

Task forces are just groups of warships. Often you can find a carrier or battleship in a task force. I usually leave them alone UNLESS they don't have escorts for whatever reason, then assuming I can intercept its a feeding frenzy.

I once blundered into two CLs out in the North Sea, put two fish in each of them and sent them to the bottom (was on my way back, too! nice way to finish a patrol)

There are only 4 types of map contact
Single ship
Convoy And TF
Oh and Subs
If you make the lead ship in a convoy a warship it shows as a TF
Go figure

if you are detected by a hunter killer group from 1944 onwards. then you are in deep trouble.in ww11. they killed an awful lot of u boats. playing sh3. it depends on which difficulty level and mods you are using to how well you escape from their clutches.

Hunter killer groups are called TF's on the map updates because of the rule that the lead ship of a TF is a warship. A TF gets around the North Sea during 190 a fair bit with comprises 3 or 4 DD's or DE's.

Ok, so they do exist in SH3. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to fight em afterall, and 6 against 1 is unfair. But the rules of war are easy to remember...there are none
