I have the out of the box version of SHIII (with some minor mods, as well as SH commander).
Now I want to try to "upgrade" to a large mod. But as I understand there are 3 versjons: Grey wolf ??? (can'r remember) vanilla. Is there some info about the pros and cons of them? I have understood it is possible to install several and modify files to separate them but that is a little more than I would like to do. I have a 2.8Ghz p4 with 1gb ram and 128mb visual card (altough a cheap one). Any advice which one I should go for? I am running at 28%realism so far. Kanolsen |

These are the three major mods:
NYGM - Mostly changes to gameplay TGW - Changes to gameplay, graphics and sounds Uboat war ace campaign (spelling) - Cant really tell you, havent tried this one. But you will get this answer from alot of people: Try out all of them and decide which one you like the best. |

Hello
the two major mods are GW and NYGM. Both of them are great and highly recomended. Try them and see which one is the best for you. I am using GW with SH3 Commander and I think it's great (until the arrival of GWX that is ![]() |

It's quite easy to use SH3Multi. You just click on the .exe and set a new name for the save folder. Making multi SH3Commander installations a only 0,000001% harder and is worth the efford. BIG TIME!
Wait for GWX to come out in about a month, in the mean time, you can try the previously mentioned mods. |

Ive played GW and NYGM and cant really reccomend one over the other. They are both great in their own ways. Try em both. You wont be disappointed.

GW fan here. If GWX is anywhere close to GW, we are in for a good treat. I did'nt think that GW could get any better but the boys are proving me wrong

Running patched vanilla on a 2.8GHZ, 1G ram & 256 Video card..
When I first started playing SH III, I loaded the GW mod.. Unbeliveable difference in graphics and immersion.. But (Had to be one), when there was a lot of graphics to deal with (Harbor, convoy, weather, etc), my frame rate (Ctrl & F8) would drop to 3 or 1.. Totally unusable unless you don't mind a 5 second lag between mouse movements.. I reduced particle size & unchecked some other things like sea floor texture, but it was still sloooow.. I ended up wiping the game off & reinstalling a patched vanilla version.. What I should have done was to upgrade my video driver first.. Just yesterday I DL'd an omega driver (Thanks gizzmoe for that suggestion) and regularly have frame rates of 150+... Slows down in harbor to around 40, but still usuable.. Now thinking about reloading GW again ![]() |
