Default Newsreel featuring an IXD2 uboat, u-177

At least i think thats what boat it is. I posted this in another thread, but thought it cool enough to merit its own thread.

WW2 Newsreel : U-boat in the indian ocean

I think it's U-177. Film, let alone pictures of an IXD2, is really rare.

Great video thanks for sharing! I am just wondering how they got some of that footage... especially teh periscope shots and the facial closeups.. I understand the spaces inside a uboat are quite cramped.

If you have quicktime installed,
This (panoramic movie tour) is probably the best damn view of the inside of a type 9 you'll ever see online.

Now if an IXD2 varies from an IXC on the inside i don't know, its got to be close to being the same, but it is a longer hull. Maybe the forward torpedo room/crew quarters was longer, or they just had more storage for food (aguably the most logical conclusion).
