i play the vanilla version SH3 since 2 months and although i sunk over 600.000 BRT in 10 patrols, i have never seen any troop transport. actually, it is 1940, october. i spent a lot of months by sailing around whole british islands but never met any TT. i also hunted down some convoy ships in AM52, 53 but besides tankers, C2-3 and small merchants, there was no TT. the same thing for victory&liberty cargos. any idea where these can be found? or maybe i was supposed to wait for them in the english channel, in juny, 1940 during the allied troops evacuation?

Well first off Raduz, you might need to switch to a longer range boat if you don't already have one (I was making an assumption that you had a Type II since you talk about stalking the British Isles, but now that I think about it, to get that amount of tonnage, you must have a Type VII)...
I find a lot of Victory/Liberty cargos on the American Eastern Seaboard, like around New York and Massachusetts (grid CA 53 comes to mind as a good hunting ground...). But now with troop transports, well, those are just rare in general IMO. But then again, I'll admit I'm not as experienced as some other people here, so...*shrugs*

Hello
I am not totally sure about it but I think the Troop Transports are part of a mod. In any case if you need to find them you can open up the editor and see where they are. If you want to see them in ports you need to download the Harbour Traffic Mod. Hope it helps Good Luck and Good Shooting |

I just met my first three TTs during operation Werbelung(sp) I think, or something (Norway) in may of 1940. Got a report of a Task-Force north of Trondheim, and though out my patrol (just south of there) the icon stayed. so out of curiousity I snuck north and stuck my bow into the Fijord as was delighted to see that the Taskforce was napping there. 4-5 DDs guarding 3 TTs...
I managed to dispatch the three TTs... though.. using unorthodox means.... 6 Steam torps set on slow, targeted out near max range (11500m of the 12500m range.) using Mag Triggers... Only had one premature fish... all three went down in flames after on hit. (GW mod, no less ![]()

I guess it depends on the mod. In my last patrol I intercepted a convoy coming from CF32 and was formed by a Catham Hospital Ship, a T2 Tanker, several Troop Transports, and C2 Cargos on the last row.
I have War Ace Campaign as my mod.

TTs are not part of any mod, they are just relatively rare (and thus relatively worthy targets). Sooner or later you will engage them but not on a regular basis.

i've seen a few in newyork harbour with GW.
first one i sunk was in vanilla... convoy heading to britain probably AM53 or that area, they are realativey rare like passenger liners, and i doubt you will see any coming from america in 1940. the way i like to think of it is, you won't find them but they'll find you.. since it's all randomly (somewhat) generated you shouldn't waste patrols looking for one ship (not as a criticism or anything, just saying they always come unexpected) |

You won't see any Victory or Liberty Ships in 1939 or 1940, as they didn't exist at that time. The game will not spawn them until the period when they existed historically, because of the availability date set in the .cfg file under each nation's roster (only the US has the Victory, and the US and UK have the Liberty). If you would rather see the vessels spawn early in the war despite historical reality, you can open the LL.cfg and VV.cfg files in the UK and US roster folders and change the appearance date. For example, for the US Liberty file:
AppearanceDate=19410927 to AppearanceDate=19380101 Of course, in the stock campaign, you still won't see it in convoys, as those entries are specific and not randomly spawned. In GW 1.1a and NYGM, I am sure that almost all entries are specific and not generic. As for troopships, they are far more rare and will almost never appear outside of a convoy (at least in my experience). Sometimes, I have seen a single Troop Transport or Passenger Liner in convoy's leaving the UK, but not often. Once, near the Eastern Seaboard, I saw a large convoy with multiple transports (although I was only able to damage one before being sunk ![]() In regards to mods and transports, there are five new transports currently available: Sergbuto's Transport (NPTR), Combatplanes Fast Transport, Chris911's Large Old Liner, my Chatham Troop Transport (misspelled by Hans Solo as Catham), and UBOAT234's Cunard Liner. These vessel are in the following mod packs (to my knowledge: NYGM - NPTR, Large Old Liner. GW 1.1 - NPTR, Large Old Liner. AOD - NPTR, maybe Large Old Liner. War Ace Campaign - NPTR, Cunard Liner, Chatham. I don't think any of these packs have the transport from Combatplanes. |

Is there any way of creating the really large Troop Transports such as the Cunard 'Queens' RMS Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth or other large converted liners. I know it would be really rare to see them, but think of the renown if you did sink one, or happen to come across one
![]() I've only ever seen Troopships in harbours or during the Norwegian campaign, and I'm playing with the GW mod. Cheers, |

thanks for replies,
first off all, i use the type VIIB but till now, i preferred not to sail to the US coast as the americans are (for a moment) neutral. the british W&E coast is quite aboundant hunting area for me. but i wish to pay a visit to the americans ASAP ![]() it is good to know the TT are not a part of a mod and they appear in the stock game, yet rarely (according to you). anyway, i get a little bit bored of all those C2s... thanks AG124, i didnt think about searching the .cfg files. now i understand why there were no liberty and victory ships in 1940... |

I always get all excited when I see a lone troop ship in the middle of the Atlantic, but when I identify it, it always turns out to be that damn untouchable hospital ship (it shows up unidentified as "troop ship"). I ALWAYS run into that thing. I've yet to run into one I can actually sink.

I found two TTs in the South Atlantic in U-874 in mid '43. Sank one, other one was moving so quickly I couldn't risk trying to catch it. Two torpedoes, good for a 9.5k ton ship. There was also a South African small merchant, which sank after two torpedoes. 4.1k tons for that.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I use GW 1.1a.
