Default World Trade Center developer seeks billions in 9/11 damages from airlines

Seriously!?!! Couldn't believe it when I read it!! He's already collected insurance money for the buildings, and wants more.

"Silverstein's suit claims that Boeing was liable in designing the jets; that the security systems at Boston's Logan Airport (where United Flight 175 originated) and at the Portland, Maine, airport (where American Flight 11 originated) were liable for failing to intercept the hijackers on 9/11; and that the airlines were liable for failing to protect passengers and property after the hijackers took over."

Should this be filed under frivolous lawsuits?

Hey...they can take my every last ounce of "NO"

That's the look on my face.

Why would you take it this far? There's no reason for this.

He should also sue the architects for not making the buildings airplane-proof.

Sue the instructors who didn't recognize terrorists from regular people and taught them how to fly.

Oh yeah, sue the passengers' families because they didn't stop the hijackers.

Maybe somebody ought to sue Silverstein for renting office space in buildings that were not made airplane-proof.

Emotional attachments to the event aside, is it a legit case?

Perhaps.

Someone is liable for the event, legally speaking, outside of the hijackers. Security? Maybe. Design in the building flaws? Maybe (Although I recall reading it was designed to take a 737 impact). Airplane design flaws? Probably not, as armored airplanes don't fly very well, at least not efficiently and economically.

Etc Etc.

Legally speaking, he might have a case. I wouldn't think it would be considered frivolous as I assume he had millions (at least) invested, and that was taken from him.

This is a legal question, not a moral one.

Morally, he's an idiot. Legally, he may have a case somewhere.

That's an ironic story. He negotiated for years to acquire the WTC complex and didn't even sign the lease on buildings 1,2, 4 and 5 until July 24th, less than 2 months before the 9-11 attacks.

That's kind of like buying a new car and watching a tree fall on it a week later.

Maybe, but still - suing Boeing for having built planes is absurd. He could also sue those who built the buildings then. In the end he could sue New York for being there.

What a court could try to clear up is whether or not there was a failure of the intelligence agencies, and of the airport secureity procedures. Everything beyond that is just trying to cheat for catching the gold and getting away with it.
