Default Coming Out of Retirement

Greetings fellow captains, I'm returning to the open seas after a 3 year hiatus. I own SH3 and 4 and played both religiously back then, and was forced to quit when my computer couldn't take it anymore. It was never meant to play such demanding games in the first place (1st gen I-5 cpu laptop with 4 gb ram and an integrated gpu, it performed admirably while it lasted) so while I had to give up Subsimming, the computer itself has lasted this long. Well, it's starting to go away completely now and I'm upgrading to a genuine gaming pc here soon, and luckily I stored both cd's and all the mods I had from back then. Can't wait!

Problem is, I looked at my saved mods list and I have a lot more than just the standard TMO and GWX. And I'm not sure I still have the tool that kept everything organized for me. And obviously, I can't remember the name of it either...so I need some help.

First, have I missed much in the way of SH3/4 mods since Fall 2010?

And does anybody still have that mod organization program?

And if the threads still exist on how to properly install everything still exist, maybe a few links would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, is SH5 worth buying yet? I know I passed over it due to many bugs and the DRM it had, but figured those would be resolved eventually...right?

Welcome Back Aboard!

I think you are thinking of JSGME. There is a thread in the SH3 forum with a link to it.

And it comes with GWX. Don't think there has been too many additions, maybe the Merchant Fleet Mod, some environment and gui stuff. And did Jeff's MG34s get in yet?

Welcome aboard

Hello Ace,

Traveller came out with a mod for SH4/TMO recently, I'm not sure of what else you might want to look at, but I'd bet there are a few things to catch your interest.

See you in port.

Thank you all for the welcome aboard, it's good to be back around water (coming from Vegas, I tend to get immersed in naval sims easily and enthusiastically). And thank you for telling me about JSGME--I ran a search for it on my HDD and it's still there!

Now that my new laptop is truly a beast, I plan to run SH at max settings, so anything and everything is open for me, particularly environmental or special fx mods. I have the 16km atmosphere mod for SH3, though I don't actually recall what it did, and have no water effect or weather or lighting or detailed explosion-etc mods. I remember TMO2.0/Run Silent Run Deep working well together, though I'll have to find the thread that showed how to make them work together. and while I enjoyed GWX3.0, I thought I spotted during my browse around the forums earlier that there's a 4.0 out now? Had to go to work so I couldn't investigate.

And Torp, I believe we joined Subsim around the same time, I remember seeing you in the forums! I didn't post much at all but you were pretty active. Good to see some of you are still around! I'll try to be more active in the forums this time around. haha

Thank you Valentino and Jimbuna. Found the old thread about how to make TMO and RSRD work together, because people are still posting in it, haha. Good to see not much has changed. But seeing all the specific mods some have in their signatures shows that I'm still pretty behind on the full experience. Guess I'll get to work on that!

GWX 3.0 is the latest version, there will be no 4.0 version. Sh 3 comes with a 8km atmosphere, 16km atmosphere just doubles it.

For SH 3 you might want to check out M.E.P v4.2, I really like it!

I searched for that and found the thread, apparently it's a 20km atmosphere mod. Does that mean I should get rid of the 16km atmosphere mod I have? Figured a few of the things I kept would be outdated by now...
