Default UpGrade Issues

Hi All,

Have just recently upgraded my desktop, now have a little blue screen appearing every time I load up SH3 saying " suggested monitor resolution 1920 x 1080 "
after a few mins of gameplay SH3 minimizes back to desk top..
It doesn't crash, it keeps minimizing..
Its the first time its been full screen since the upgrade.

Running windows 7 64bit
Few eye candy mods, no GWX or super mods
G-Force GTX 760 Graphics Card..

Any ideas anyone???

I think I had a problem like this a gazillion years ago and can't remember enough to be really helpful, but you could

1. Try changing your SH3 to run windowed. There is a switch on one of the ini files for running the game windowed. I haven't done it like that myself though so don't know if it really helps

or

2. Try the hi-resolution fix. You can find it from the SH3 downloads section.

or

3. Change your desktop resolution to 1024 x 768 and try to run the game.

Hope you get it working. If not, I'm sure someone here will know exactly what to try.

That blue screen, could that be an overlay printed on the screen by the monitor itself. Does it look in anyway as the Windows GUI-style?

SH3 doesn't support widescreen resolutions natively. It tries to set up a 4:3 resolution which your monitor likely finds non-optimal.

Your options are to:

1: Set windows background resolution to 1024x768. (But this messes up your desktop icons and makes normal Windows look ugly and coarse.

or

2: Find an option in the graphics driver setting that scales the output resolition to your maximum/optimal monitor resolution. You have G-force, so Nvidia Control Panel would be what you are looking for. Right click on the desktop. Select Nvidia Control Panel. In the menu on the left select "Display/Adjust Desktop Size and Position". You may want to scale with maintaining aspect ratio, or squares will look like rectangles and circles as ellipses. What you should be getting are black bands on the side of the screen.

3: Implement the/a widescreen mod to SH3. I have no experience so I can't advise further beyond this point.

I found with my system (alienware) I needed to run it in compatability mode. Since doing that, I have not had any issues with Silent Hunter and Windows 7. I don't know if it will work for you, but it is worth a try. My system is running a G-force gtx 760 as well.

Hey guys, Thanks Heaps for the ideas...

I think its the monitor settings itself, cause when I changed the desktop resolution, that same blue menu popped up, telling me recommend 1920 x 1080 resolution.
What I've ended up doing is I opened Windows Task manager, and disabled a setting in the process tab.

The little blue window still pops up when I launch SH3 but it goes away, and the game has stopped minimising to desk top.
It plays in full screen and appears to be working fine..

You think your doing the right thing upgrading, but along with it comes the headaches..

Thanks Heaps Guys for your time and thoughts
