Diets: All about FOOD and that's no Bush.it!

My wife is curious about the Atkins diet. I think this is a very BAD diet, so I am discouraging her from it. She wants a long term diet and I think Atkins should only be for a short term since it's all about eating meats pretty much or foods with low- to-no carbs in them.

Anyone got any diets that have worked for them or know how someone lost weight on a long term diet and which long term diet did they use?
