Default A newb's first days

September 7, 1939

My maiden voyage in SHIII has been lifeless thus far. Six days sailing in this verdammt rain! The men can barely manage a 4-hour shift on duty in these seas. If they could keep their soup down, they'd be bored to tears.

36 hours in my designated patrol zone, Northeast of Ireland, and not even a seagull to throw stones at. The King George could have sailed within a kilometer and we'd never have spotted it. New orders to relocate to the Faroes. The Faroes! Perhaps the Fuhrer would like a new wool sweater...

Should an eager young sea captain with 14 torpedoes at his disposal disregard his orders and set sail, perhaps, for the Irish Sea? Or maintain discipline, stay on station, and harass the Icelandic fishing fleet until the weather clears?

- Jens Kruger, U-52

p.s. I'm running 1.4b with GW, if it makes a difference (or if you're curious).

Welcome To subsim.com

in early war the the Irish island is a nice spot to be there will be juicy convoys heading into the irish/scotish canal.

just a small secret , the large convoys in early war mostly come packed with an Southampton Cruiser worth the shot and the tonnage ofcourse (with the TGW mod)

Looks to me that you might enjoy using the weather mod. And I think you're best bet is to install SH3 Commander mod along with the weather mod because Commander will utilize the weather mod and GW for you, automatically, as well as many other benefits.

Welcome to the best game & forum ever!!

When I first start a career, I always patrol my grid as there is a renown boost awarded aswell as a boost for retuning to base. However, once I have enough renown and the boat I want I just head to my favorite hunting grounds and sink as much as possible.

One thing to remember is, in foul weather you can hear further than you can see. North of Ireland AM 52/53 is always a good spot.

Happy Hunting & enjoy the wonder that is Grey Wolves

did u install the Grey Wolf mod right away or did you play the vanilla game at all? I cannot decide whether I should install GW or not. I am really enjoying the vanilla game so far with SH commander. DId you notice a big difference? Is the game that much harder?

Thanks

Danke, meine freunde. It's always good to see some other periscopes out there.

Looks like the best choice right now is to stay composed and wait for the weather to break. Don't want Dönitz thinking I'm a loose cannon just yet. Maybe later I'll go skulk around Ireland and Scotland. Good tip about the Southamptons, HunterICX. I'll be sure to let the men know, give them something to look forward to.

gord96, I did some training exercises using the unmodded version, but I went for Grey Wolves pretty much straightaway.
