I am seasick,

Two weeks ago my computer crashed with no hope of repair at a reasonable price. I have not been able to go on patrol for two weeks. Amost every night I wake up thinking I am on patrol. My grog intake has increased and I just mope around the pen. My first mate got so piss** at me she said I could get a new machine for Christmas with a shipping date of 11/30. I will be in the North Atlantic way befor Christmas I hope. I am getting the following system. Ohhh yeah, alienware.... Without beeing a wizard on computers, i can tell you that this is a excellent choice. And you get the GF 8800 GTX......

I couldnt find a price on this rig...How much will you have to pay?

With no frills except for one multi drive and 2 gig memory 2500. I only got the drive so I could DL GWX. My first mate was not too happy about the 2500...

Alienware PC´s are terribly overpriced. You can usually get a PC with the same performance for 30-40% less if you buy it somewhere else.

My machine that creashed was a two year old Dell 8300 with all frills and only 512 ram with a standard graphics card. The frame rate was frustrating when you gave a Des on your tail. I paid 2600 for it from Dell. As someone has said on another thread regulare shelf machines are for the home not the sea. You are right about pricy but my computer knowledge is at the amiba stage so I decided to let Alienware build me a gaming machine. If I did not have a first mate I would have paid my soul to get back to sea.

Sounds like the same system I have! (The Dell 8300 I mean). I upgraded the graphics after playing SHIII for about 3 months (the original, on-board graphics had no pixel shading at all, so I was surprised the game even ran at all) but otherwise it's still the same old system. I truly envy you peeps that have the high-end rigs that run circles around mine.

Should be an excellent system. I always build my own to save the $$$ but if I had it I'd buy their 5000$ machine!

Am planning on building my next one after the first of the year and usually get by for around 1000$ in the case and mine are generally loaded pretty well.

But never heard anything bad about Alienware other than the costs. But if I had it I'd go that route myself.

Alienware PC's rock. They are badarse, plain and simple.

Sadly they DEFINITELY are grossly overpriced.

I agree. If you know what you want inside the PC, and for what purpose you will use it, there is a lot to save on "building" it on your own (or make the store personell build it).
I also think it will pay off doing a search on the net for equipment such as RAM or HD's. These tend to be cheaper then in computer stores (atleast in Norway...).
My next investment is the GF8800 GTX. I need those shaders.....

I don't like to speak ill of the Dell, but from what I've seen, they tend not to care too much about performance and usually put the cheapest components they can find into their PC's. Their phone and online support is pish poor as well.

At least with alienware, you're not just getting something "off the shelf". Each unit is tested and tweaked to within an inch of it's life, so you know you're getting the best out of your machine.

I too was looking at their $5500 laptop,........ until the wife beat that idea out of my head.

DELL for 2600€ broken after 2 years? what a waste of money

I got a system of 700 €/$ from 2004 running just fine to play SH3

Geforce FX5700LE 256 TD
80 Gigs HD
DVD drive
CD Writer

ofcourse I already had a 19'' Inch TFT LG screen, Mouse&Keyboard


so to calculate that all together with my screen&Mouse/keyboard that makes a total of 1500€ for a complete system which I chose the compartment on my own and the shop installed it.

but ofcourse if you have no experience whatsoever about how to choose ur PC parts to make a self made one. you have no other choise. but anyway if you have the new Rig in ur Home ''Enjoy!&Happy Hunting'' for 2500$ the Rig better play SH3 FLAWLESS lol!
