Hi guys,
Been playing SHIII for about a month now. This is my 12th patrol, I was patrolling off the coast of Ireland when BdU sent me a radio message of a large oncoming convoy, moving slow (7 knots) course East. So after a few hours of searching (including sinking a small merchant on the way with my deck gun ![]() ![]() ..........Yeah, I know, I'm lucky aren't I? So I currently have my engines off, maintaining depth at 50m, not making a noise. Since this is my first convoy in career mode, I really don't want to screw it up. Any advices from you veterans out-there would be great!!! Karl Raeder, U-51 End Transmission. |

Go to PD, ahead slow. Get past the lead destroyer Close to less that 1000 meters of the nearest taget. Pick the highest vaule targets and aim for them. Try and shoot your torps so they arrive at the same time, so that the targets have as little time to react.
When the first hits, start reloading torp to try and get a second shot if possible. Remember what Bdu said "Be more agressive!" ![]() Good hunting |

Thanks for the reply! What I'm also wondering is, do I absolutely need to identify the ships through my periscope? When I saw the small merchant, I was on the surface and forgot to check the box in the recognition manual through the UZO controls. However, when I sunk it using my deck-gun, the vessel's class still appeared in my Captain's log. Now, I usually shoot my torps using the point-and-shoot method (without the use of the TDC) do I still need to identify the ship in this case?

It would matter if you use magnetic setting for your torpedos. As diffrent ships have diffrent keel depths. If your using contact shots your fine.
The other reason for picking your targets is for higher renown value, would prefer sinking a coastal mechant or a T3 tanker? That the best reason for identifing your targets. T2, T3, Troopships, Large cargo, passenger liners are good high value targets, which are best to hit first. C3, C2, small tankers, Liberty and victory ships are good medium value targets. Small and coastal merchants are low value targets, best for the deck gun, or a single torpedo if there is nothing else worthwhile around. Watch out for neutrals in a convoy (mostly in early war convoys) hit one of the and Bdu won't be all that happy with you (even if you were fully legal in taking them down!) |

You can check out the thread I started about this very subject a week ago or so. Shahed's advice at the bottom is great, as is everyone's.
