Default SH III "orphans" - what might have been

While looking for something completely different, I found myself in the menu_1024.txt file (or whatever it's called), and I was surprised by how many of the entries were "orphans", or unused. This'll be old for many, but to some of you, it should be pretty interesting.

The reason I'm posting it here is that it might be a sort of "unofficial preview" of the features of Silent Hunter 4. So without further ado:
Chief Engineer
Recharging batteries!
Weapon Officer
Identifying target!
Computing solution for forward tubes!
Computing solution for aft tube!
Computing solution for aft tubes!
Solution ready, sir!

Target marked!
Marking nearest ship!
Marking nearest warship!
Marking nearest merchant!
Marking recommended target!

Cannot compute solution for forward tubes!
Cannot compute solution for aft tubes!

Target identified!
Target range computed!
Target speed computed!
Target heading acquired!

Pressure hull breached!!!
We cannot stop the flooding!!!
Watch Officer
Secure the deck gun!
Secure the flak gun!
Secure the flak guns!
Cannot fire, aiming at dead angle!

We should move to beside the supply boat!
Transferring supplies!
Re-supply operation on going!
Re-supply operation interrupted!
Re-supply operation completed!
The escort is ready, sir!
We must follow the escort, sir!
We’ll follow the escort, sir!
We’re docking, sir!
Navigation
Plotting intercept course!
Course plotted, sir!
Plotting search pattern!
Search pattern plotted, sir!

Range to target, [...] hundreds!
Range to target, under one hundred!
Range to target, [...] thousands!
Range to target, over ten thousands!

The weather is improving!
The weather is changing for the worse!
Radio
Single contact!
Multiple contacts!
Enemy radio message intercepted!
Target acquired!
Sweeping!
Sonar
Sweeping!
Sweeping ahead!
Sweeping ahead port!
Sweeping ahead starboard!
Sweeping abeam port!
Sweeping abeam starboard!
Sweeping astern!
Sweeping astern port!
Sweeping astern starboard!
Ship sinking!
Ship breaking up!
Some nifty features there, such as the ability to plot an intercept course to a target, a (possible) time delay for plotting torpedo attacks, working escorts and supply ships, and weather reports from Watch Officer when weather changes. And, of course, "Enemy Radio Message Intercepted!".

Let's hope all of this, and more, is included in Silent Hunter 4!

That's very interesting to see. I'm with you I hope most, if not all, of that makes it into SH IV as well.

They are in GWX, yes, not in the stock game. And, of course, the supply boats in GWX are one Heck of a work-around.

Oh, and "Too deep to launch" is of course in the game. My bad.

There are also at least one sound file not listed here. I remember "Abandon Ship!", for one.

25 meters. I've never gotten the "Too deep to launch" message, but I have gotten "Too deep to open torpedo doors".

I'm really hoping we get the double blast from the dive horn.
