I am using Jane's 688i for a Learning Platform...since the manual is so nice to learn from. I have attempted something both in 688i and in DW-688i, and I can't figure it out.
When I am at a couple hundred feet deep... surface contact at 5 NM... I either can't see anything on the Broadband.. or [in the case of Jane's 688i], I get a solid contact for a few minutes.. then gone. I tried being deeper and more shallow. Any ideas? Of course... ![]()

Have you patched DW right up to date?
dont forget your sphere broadband only has 180 degree coverage the hull array only either side the towed array is the best one to use. 688i and DW they are in two diffrent leauges.

I have DW patch v103 installed. Yes, I can sure see the two Leagues... Unfortunately for ME, the book for DW is 'tough'. So, I have been using Jane's 688i for a step or two.. then go over to DW, grab a Quick Mission that looks like it uses about the same 'things'. With the surface targets off either bow, I sure thought I'd see 'em... in either game.

To put it simply your defeating the object here your reading a manual for a game thats out of date and trying to apply what that says to a up to date game.
Its a bit like giving the captain of the virginia a manual of the skipjack and saying here get on with it your trying to work forwards by going back wards and everytime you will be stumped cause your not learning the right thing. Personaly if you cant read the book or cant be botherd ask one shot or mahuja for CADC courses they can teach you.

Uh-Huh... So you're saying that nothing in the 688i 'basics' is applicable ? Wow...
I don't mind reading the manual.. but it IS a little easier to read a 'simpler' one.

It takes a bit of time you cant expect to know everything over night, ive been a vet of sub command and DW been playing them well subcommand since about 2000, both sub command and DW are similar so i didnt have a problem transfering skills.
Its now been around 6 years that ive been playing these games and i cannot claim i know everything because i dont, theres people out there that can take me on and win theres people out there who have beaten me in games, theres people out there more tacticaly aware then me and have better skills in some areas. My skill is navigation not sonar some are sonar and weapons so you got to learn to adapt to everything.

Yes, there's got to be a 'start' for everything, that's for sure. I had sure hoped that would be the simple act of 'reading' the sonar! Heck, I even surfaced and used the Radar better !!!
Oh, well...

I dunno what was wrong, but I un-installed DW completely.. re-installed and patched it, and 'yes'... now my BB Sonar in the DW 688i works. I suppose the lesson is to buy a case of suds.. wait for a solid rainy day, GET MY 'HIGH-LIGHTER' OUT, and start slugging my way through..... that pile of pages.
Ah... the joys....

Oh well, the sooner you get started reading the manual the sooner you'll have a great time with DW!
