In the course of learning to attack with torpedoes, I find myself submerged and needing to cover distances. Flank Speed eats up electricity. How about using Time Compression to close the distance ? OR.. is this 'crutch' something that only shows up in the Training, anyway? I'm prone to use Flank... damn the use of juice, but to get the required C2 and four others... I dunno...
Am I off track here ?

Try to plot his course so you know his direction and speed Try to outflank on the surface keeping your self at a good distance away just within your contact range Night attacks are best if you can as early war you own the night and can get a lot closer than the day and before radar You will eat juice at flank submerged over long distances and to be honest you must be fair distance away to notice so much power use If you are using manual TDC these videos are good http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=97682 Even if your not you will get the idea ![]() |

My honest opinion is to just surface and be done with it. Speed is better, surface attack with the UZO is fine... but... I think I'm supposed to use the Attack 'Scope and dance the dance... as a learning experience. But those long runs, submerged.... hmmm....

If you are attacking a merchan ship then use flank speed all you want, but NEVER try that with a warship around, since they'll detect you immediatly if you make THAT much noise under water.
The problem is that flank speed underwater isn't enough to outmaneuver any but the slowest of all ships, so in most cases the argument is void. As for time compression... yes, it's a valid technique, but only 2x or 4x at most, or else you risk nasty surprises and rude awakenings. As a side note, if you're on the surface, then you don't show up on their ASDIC at all, no matter what, and your hydrophone signature is also considerably reduced, so ironicaly, before radar, it's harder for the enemy to detect you while on the surface. |

Best way to stay un-detected while aproaching is to stay behind your target.
It's engines make a lot of noise, and it is therefor almost impossible for it to detect you right behind it with the hydrophones. Also,I think Hydrophones don't work above a certain speed ,but I'm not sure if that's correct .
