Default Having a Small Problem

I downloaded GW 1.1. I have not updated SH3 because of probems with a text file.
I uninstalled SH3 and reinstalled it. All the other mods have been removed. I ran the installer for GW 1.1 and everything went off without a hitch.
I start the game and see the new splash screen (very nice, btw) and then the little movie of the sub in the mist and then the loading bar. The loading bar makes it about 5/8ths of the way across and then I get this message:
"There is a new (not implemented) page: <Page Ingame Options>!"
The computer locks up at this point and requires a reboot. <alt tab> or <ctrl-alt-del> do not answer the helm.
I have a NedWreck 3400(TM) 3.4 ghz computer with 2.5 gigs of ram and a GeForce 7300 GS video card with 512 mb (256 mb on card 256 mb of system memory)

Thanks!
Bob

I guess the problem is that you haven't done a clean uninstall. This is how to do it.

1. Remove EVERY trace of SH3 (that means run the uninstaller and delete all the files in the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3 AND the SH3 folder in My Documents)
2. Install SH3
3. Patch it up to 1.4 using the appropriate version. That means you have to use either the European or the American version and the one for the CD\DVD or the one for Downloads (check the ubisoft forum for that) If you don't patch it up GW will not run properly.
4. Now you can install GW (you can use either the mod enabler or install it on top of SH3-If you use the mod enabler you can remove GW without having to remove SH3)

If you have any other questions fire away

Good Luck

Yes, you have to do a "clean sweep", and it's easy to miss the "secret" folder in My Documents. Been there, done that.

OK, I did as suggested, I went as far as to search the registry. The thing still won't update due to a unknown german help text file. So I installed GW1.1 on SH3 1.0.

This time the game waited til it got all the way though the progress bar to hang, with the same message. Luckily, this time it did not freeze the computer so I guess that's progress of sorts.

1. Are you using a No CD Crack??? If you do there might be problems with the patch.
2. Are you using the correct patch (European/American and CD/download) If not it will not update
3. Have you deleted the SH3 files n My Documents??? They need to be deleted for the patch to work.

1)DON'T ANSWER THAT
2)Easy mistake to make.
3)Shouldn't effect the patch process but will effect loading of SH3.

Just FYI, there have been problems with Help.txt files reported. The answer was to delete them from your install before patching. This seemed to solve the problem as the 1.4b patch will put them back in.

1. Nope. I wasn't aware there was one. I've used them on other games just cause it's a PITA to dig a disk out every time I want to play a game. I don't share games with others at all. No CD Cracks come in very handy at times, like for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3, when the cd would constantly spin during gameplay.
2. Yep.
3. Yep

At this point, I am fully prepared to do a System Restore to a point before I loaded SH3 the very first time (April '06). I'm pretty sure that this is what it's gonna take to update SH3 . This means I can probably kiss my install of FSX goodbye but that would be worth it at this point.

Thanks,

Bob

Friendly Heads Up - DO NOT DISCUSS NO CD CRACKS on this site, it will only lead to trouble.

Have you tried my suggestion - just delete the files that the patch installer is moaning about.

Have you tried running the game before you install the 1.4 patch?
Then if it works install the 1.4 patch and run it before you install TGW 1.1.
It might isolate where something is corrupt.
Frankly what is occurring is uncommon and I am guessing a file is corrupted. Hopefully it is TGW1.1 as that would be easier to solve
Try DLing a new TGW1.1 and see if that does it.
It has occurred (not only with TGW) at times in major DLs. My first NYGM was corrupted.
If it happens from the non patched version contact UBI for a replacement disk.

SUCCESS!

I removed the text file, installed update 1.1. I tried to update to 1.2 but it wouldn't because a certain file was missing. I put the file back and continued updating the sim to 1.4 with no problems.
Then I installed GW1.1 with no problems. Fired it up and Shazzam! It works perfect and looks even better. Thanks y'all! Gold E's all around!

I gots one question, however.

Who's the dirty so and so that put the hulks in the channels in Scapa? =)

Thanks again,

Bob

Try to get through them and you will find what you're looking for

Ask Gunther Prien. He saw them for real. They were really there. After he left they also closed those channels with chains, nets and mines. And increased the patrols in the main channels, making it pretty much impossible to repeat his performance.

I did go around them. WuWei, is that a sub cap'ns dream. I was just fixing to take out the biggest ship in Scapa when I got pinged. Then I got stomped on repeatedly by no less than 3 destroyers.

I'll be back. They won't be so lucky next time.
