Newbie : What is the way of completing a patrol and finishing with maximum renown ?

Hello,

I recently bought SH3 and I am doing a campaign in which on a single patrol I have destroyed : 1 battleship, 2 passager liners, 1 T2 tanker, 1 Bogue carrier and a C2. The renown I got from this was 1000 points I find this amount quite small considering that an average patrol of 5 sunken ships gives me on average 500 points

I would like a run down of what are the necessary steps for obtaning maximum renown values and what reduces it during a patrol. I have looked around this forum and saw bit and pieces of information but I think I'm missing a few things. Don't forget that I'm kinda new so please do not omit information thinking that i know it already. I just realised 2 days ago that I have to radio in my patrol report

Thanks for your time.l

Did you check what nationality they each were? Sinking a neutral ship or worse still, one of your own navy's ships will get you negative renown and thereby reduce your "score". A BB would give you around 1200-1500, a Liner about 870 but if any of them were neutral or friendly you'd have that amount deducted. Just a thought!

just sank 1 BB and 2 merchants to net over 1500 renown. (+ completeing a 24h tour in the assigned grid)

also playing at a easy realism setting reduces renown (i think)

a patrol of 5 ships will usualy net me over a 1000 renown, give or take depending on the ships.

recently i raided loch ewe, sank a nelson, 3 destroyers, 1 c2, 3 coastel merchants and a fishing boat (82 tonne of pure enemy!) then completed my patrol grid. i netted just shy of 2000.

dont forget to patroll your assingned area for 24 hours, and return to your home base..you will get alittle more renown for that and remember you dont have to actually dock your boat if you are within 25 km of your home base you can hit escape and you can "dock at" (base name), but if you are further than 25 km from home it will say "return to base" and you will not get the extra renown.

hope that helps.

What level are you playing on. I only ask to point out that at 100% you should get renown equal to the tonnage you sink. At 50% you should get half, and so on.

You also get penalised if you hit a Neutral which to me is unfair especially if it's under armed escort in a convoy (edit your .cfg file)
