Passport photo of girl, 5, banned 'in case it offends Muslims'

A five-year-old girl's passport application was rejected because it shows her bare shoulders and might offend Muslims.


Hannah Edwards's mother Jane, a Sheffield GP, was told that her daughter's exposed skin may be considered offensive in a Muslim country.
The photograph was taken in a booth at a local post office for a family trip to the south of France.
However, when the family presented it at the post office with the completed form, they were told it would not be accepted by the Passport Office.
Mrs Edwards said she was furious when a woman behind the counter said she was aware of at least two other applications that had been rejected because a person's shoulders were not covered.
Mrs Edwards said: "I was incensed. I went back home and checked the form. Nowhere did it say anything about covering up shoulders. If it had, I would have done so, but it all seems so unnecessary.
"It is a total over-reaction. How can the shoulders of a five-year-old girl offend anyone? It's not as if anything else was showing, the dress she wore was sleeveless, but it has a high neck," she told the Daily Telegraph.
As a result, Mrs Edwards spent two hours taking Hannah for new pictures, filling in a new form and finding the necessary "responsible citizens" to endorse the photos.
"The people who had signed the original application were not available," Mrs Edwards said.
"I had to chase around and eventually found a neighbour who was a teacher to sign the pictures.
"The passport office should set this sort of thing out in its forms if it is going to be so pedantic."
A spokesman for the Identity and Passport Service said it was not its policy to reject applications with bare shoulders.
"Our offices have a Passport Office template which says which says what the photograph should and shouldn't be. Bare shoulders don't come into that at all. "It is the first time we have heard of such a rejection and we will take it up with that particular office."

Since when is the south of France considered a Muslim country!? Since when British bureaucracy should be concerned with how Muslim custom officials would react considering the family didn't even intended to go to a Muslim country!? But if they went to Yemen and the custom official felt offended, then he could reject the mother and the little girl and send them back home, or just outright behead the two of them and finish with such profanation. I guess this British official was afraid of such a thing happening?

It would be a hypocrisy anyway. Because in many of these Muslim countries women are treated like objects, punished with leather whips and forced into covering their entire bodies from head to toe as if they were nuns, but they didn't had any choice.

I've been to a Syrian sports club a few days ago. Had a hard time finding a proper Muslim (none), but I suppose this custom official would have a heart attack if he had seen the women in the pool. We should close this club down because the sheer bare-shoulder madness offends the bastion of human rights and liberty back in the south of France...I mean...Syria!

I will not take any responsebility for you loosing your mind or hurting yourself when braking down !!! and hitting the deck. Make sure the ground has some thick carpet or some layers of soft material. I do not want your heads in general getting injured in the process, only Muslim heads. Also make sure you do not fall down with your back pointing at the direction of Mekka and Medina, this could drastically increase the offense of the following shameless illustration, bringing us another jihad!!!

Muslims who are adamant in their belief that they are right should not watch this grim scene.

P.S. Ayatollah Khomenei once has ruled that it is okay for an adult man to enjoy the pleasure of sexual interaction with small children, evemn with babies, as long as no penetration occurs. I wonder why this comes to my mind in this context.

The whole farce is laughable. It`s a good thing more and more people in W. Europe see what is going on.

PC Madness is one of the reasons why half a million British people have now left England, if I had the money so would I.

Other reasons are high tax, weak government's, red tape, and so on.

Stop making fun of it, Yahoshua. It is a serious issue of violating mutual tolerance, undermining multicultural coexistence and not wishing to realize the similiarities of standards of reason and intelligence in their religion, and the religions of those over two thirds of mankind that believe in anything but Muhammad. We really should put more trust in Muhammad's wellmeaning. Trust is a primary human virtue, so it surely couldn't hurt, could it? If you only would trust Muhammad, then you could see the offense in a picture of a five-year-old girl's shoulder very easily - then you would be offended yourself - isn't this convincing enough for how superior that moral codex is?
