Yes I tried once and made it thru
Was in a IXB and heavy fog in 1941 IIRC
Refuelled at La Spezia and cruised the med for a patrol or two then went back thru
Only just made the return journey as had to go deep way before Gib because of aircraft and nearly ran flat and out of air
Pulled into Cadiz to recharge and vent as ASW seemed twice as bad on way out than going in
Worth a go and definately a different side of the game to the Atlantic

umm, i once took an IXC through gibralter, through the med, into the black sea, and then docked at constanza. Then went back the same way i came, back into the med, and out through gibralter once again; sinking ships along the way both coming and going.

Dunno if thats relivant, i just felt like bragging about how bored i was
