You basically need to see the ship and then look for the corresponding silhouette in the Recognition Manual. Once you find a match - ship identified! After a while you won't need to rely on the Manual as much.
Here's the link to the associated WIKI page... http://www.communitymanuals.com/shii...ifying_Targets Apparently (I've never tried this) the quick way to link the manual to the sighted ship is to lock on to the ship in scope view and click on the word SHIP in the upper right hand target notepad. This will open up the recognition manual to the page of the ship you've locked onto. BTW, if you/anyone want the ship names back, all you need do is reinstall TGW11a but this time DON'T select the "Generic ship contact names" option. Last edited by JScones; 07-15-06 at 03:40 AM. |

No, unfortunately SH3 does not support specific ship names. It only allows class names like "C2 Cargo", "C3 Cargo", etc (or the generic "Contact" for all classes if running with the GW option installed).
It would be great if SH3 did support individual ship names - some of the game files suggest that this feature was planned at some stage, but subsequently dropped. Only SH3Cmdr can provide individual ship names for your sinkings. |

Yep. Flag determines nationality. What you ascertain first will depend on target distance and your experience. If the target is far away, you'll likely be able to determine the type before the nationality. If it's close, perhaps both at the same time or nationality first. A lot also comes with experience: after a while you'll be able to recognise the ship type simply by the smoke or number of funnels etc and you will remember whether, for example, the Greek tramp steamer you're targetting is a friend or foe in July 1940.
