Default Fed up with weather !

I don't know about the rest of you but I am about fed up with starting a patrol and the weather is great... nice sailing and enjoyable ... usually about day 2 or day 3 into patrol it starts to rain a bit ( thats ok also ) but then it turns into a full force thyphoon with heavy fog and it rains sideways and with the max wind of 15 meters a second ... I can see it maybe doing this nonsense for like 2 maybe 4 days but for 2 or 3 weeks ? ?

Is there some way to edit a file ( config file probably ) to make the weather more realistic ? I really don't enjoy only having stern torpedos left and trying to chase down in thick fog and hurricane type weather to hunt ships....... Time of year after this last patrol is May of 1940 .....

I been finding myself sitting at 25 meters and waiting for these freak storms to pass ... I don't even bother any more trying to chase down ships in the thick fog ........... unless they are really close and I won't get run down or slamming into them ..........

Try the SH3 Weather Generator Mod, over on the Mods Page.

Works a charm.

I can totally relate...its driven me mad a few times. The other time the weather has been totally beautiful for days on end is when I run into a huge convoy with 5 big tankers in it. Of course the six destroyers are enjoying the weather too. Can't get anywhere near them without killing everyone on the boat. I've been shadowing them for five days now and the deck crew has a bad case of sun burn. My German swear word repertoire grows by the hour.

Thanks Sailor Steve ... went and got it and downloaded and installed .... ran it but didn't work .. maybe I am suspose to leave it open and then open SH3 Commander by JScones as I use that to load my game .... I think when I set it and generated what I wanted and then closed it it reverted back to random weather... didn't get heavy fog till 4 days into patrol ..... Ironic the heavy fog appeared just before a convoy was comming into torpdo range

Anyways.. looks like a nice mod .. thanks Skweetis

Did you copy SH3Weather.exe into your SH3 root folder and run it from there? Did you get the confirmation "updated" message in SH3Weather after you pressed "GENERATE"? Were you in base before starting a new patrol (SH3Weather does not work mid-patrol)?

At the moment (that is, prior to SH3Cmdr R2.6), you should run SH3Weather.exe first, then SH3Cmdr after SH3Weather has closed. Don't forget to backup your campaign .mis files prior to first ever use of SH3Weather, just in case, as it doesn't back them up.

SH3Cmdr R2.6 will automatically run SH3Weather (if it exists) just prior to launching SH3, so it saves you the need to run both individually. Hopefully Skweetis will resurface at some point, because, whilst SH3Cmdr tells SH3Weather what the date and Flotilla are, SH3Weather hasn't been coded to accept and use the information. If it was, then SH3Cmdr would be able to run SH3Weather "silently" without the need for any user interaction.

Yes to all of the above... except I put a shortcut on the desktop as the readme said to do .... I also backed up my " *.mis " files like it susgested and have them stashed away just in case as you say ...... Anyways , I am in mid patrol now so I don't want to try changing the weather until I get back to port again .....

By the way .... This new patrol ( my 4th I think ) is the first time I have used your SH3Cmdr mod and just want to say THANKS ! :-) I wish I would have used it before as I have alot of control over the crew and such plus the fatigue nonsense .... Like the " go to the night club " too .....

It is the infamous "no weather change for a long time after reload" bug, combined with the way we use this game.
Consider: You leave port in good wx. You sail to your patrol area or whereever using TC. Lots of virtual time passes, little real time and you don't save.
You reach your destination, and the wx may have turned bad now. But here you spend a lot of your time without TC, listening for and sinking targets - and a lot of real time passes and you have to Save and Exit for real life 'duties'. And when you reload, wx will be 'stuck' for what seems a long time!
Finally you run out of torps (or patience) and head for home, using TC. Now, the wx has many virtual days to change, and it will probably do so... And so you enter port at 5m/s and clear skies.
A workaround is of course to save and reload when the wx is OK. If you keep doing that, you'll always have clear skies - but it would be cheating (in my book, anyway )

I'm not sure the weather mod is working. It was working for me before with NYGM TW 1.03, but now with NYGM TW 2.01 in the last two patrols (2 Sep 39 to 17 Sep 39 and 27 Sep 39 to probably 10 Oct 39) I have had 90% of my days being gale force winds. Clear as a bell most of the time, but howling winds and seas to make even Noah a little on the queasy side.

I don't buy the TC argument. Even when sailing under TC about a day out of port the weather went from 6 m/s to 15 m/s. It stays that way until about a day out of port on the way back. Now I know fall in the North Sea isn't placid and serene, but I doubt that two hurricanes in a row would be coming through.

To my mind, 15 m/s winds (actually gale force) should be rather rare, and when they do happen should only be for a few days or so, and even then not on every single patrol, for weeks on end it seems.

I play with fatigue on all the time no matter the TC, so it makes it real annoying to have to bring down my watch crew every 4 hours and see them stagger limply down the ladder, or to stay submerged for 20 hours out of 24.

Hmmmm...never really had a problem with the bad weather, thought that was just the way it is. I always think of das boot when the storm really hits and have a laugh.

I guess having it random is good but a duration cap should be in place so we can still enjoy a few "game" aspects.

If you were to just sit still in your U-boat for a long TC period (e.g. 7 days) would the storm "pass by"?
