Default Virtual memory running low...!!!

Hi guys....I am getting this msg. when I play the game for an extended period of time...I have just added another 512 megs of memory giving me a total of over 1 GB....my video card also has memory of its own...and yet I am still getting this msg.....it slows my game up when windows tries to correct this....Is there anyway around this....? I think when I TC alot this exacerbates the problem....do any of you all get this msg also?? I had hoped that when I got the new video card I would get rid of these problems...but that has not been the case...

Check the size of your swap file (virtual memory). Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced, click Settings in the "Performance" section. It´s either a fixed-sized swap file that´s too small (set it to 1GB) or it´s a dynamically-sized swapfile that can´t grow because there´s not enough space left on the partition.

Virtual memory is not related to system memory but space on your C:/ HDD. I'd suggest that a tidy up is in order of your C:/ Drive. You can also set Virtual memory size manualy under My Computer (right click) properties (left click) Advance Tab (left click) Performance Settings (left click) Advance Tab (left click) Virtual memory change (left click) select Custom Size. Then copy the Maximum size and Paste that into Initial Size. Then click Set. Then click ok and close the app. You now have set the Virtual Memory to a preset MANUAL size that will never change and will always be available. This is best done on a CLEAN OS install only with no other programs installed. IF you have already install a lot of other programs then CLEAN you HDD of ALL uneccessary programs and left over bits that are taking up space thats not needed. That way you will get the biggest space thats available and usable.

I have the same Msg everytime, ofcourse I have a 512 Ram, and the virtual settings is on 1Gb.

I only have this when I travel long time on High TC settings.

Also to save that space is to close background programs that you dont use and that windows dont need Example: the icons next to the clock. close the programs you dont need.

I have the virtual memory adjusted at it maximun set always, 4096 Max and 4092 min....

Any way, SH3 seems to have some kind of problem with the ram memory fragmentation or some thing.

If i run many missions without reboot, my FPS droops down dramatically, i only neeed to reboot to solve the problem. :hmm:

Well, Redwine
I have the same problem, but not only with SH3 with most of the games, I think the problem is Windows XP that if you require the system a lot that XP loses control.

for example : when I start XP , and check the Virtual ram space it uses 200 Ram to run the desktop with the programs I need (Norton Protection Center, etcetc) when I use some programs and require the PC the use some of its system and check the ram again when I have everything closed again it uses 260 - 280 Virtual ram space to run desktop. I might be wrong but thats what I notice.

Well if you wait that long it will take forever.

I defrag manually every other day, which takes about 30 seconds and I'm using Diskeeper 10 as well. The program also allows me to bootup defrag which will get everything else that normal defragging won't get.

I havnt defraged in almost 2 years! the problem with my pc was that the HD was copied from another one, and the copying program, made the sections of the HD so small, that now nothing can comprehend defraging it, it will just say I dont have enough memory free

edit: I just checked it! i havnt defragged in 1105 days!
