Default Quick Fleet Sub Q

which was the attack scope in a US WWII Fleet Sub, the front one, or the rearmost one...

also, was one taller than the other...

i know, dumb questions... and i had the answers before, just got too many things in my head right now, and too many books and papers lying all around

rule of thumb shipmate the smallest of the 2 that is the least detectable to radar and visually is generally the attack scope

Dont know about the west but, the first and longest scope was the attack scope, normaly very thin but long making it hard to see on the surface and by radar.

The second the much bigger scope is one which can be sat on and is turned around by electric motors is fatter and shorter than the attack scope is the navigation scope.

Also the oberon submarines had similar scopes to the russians.

Default Quick Fleet Sub Q

To be slightly more specific:
On the Gato, Balao & Tench class of fleet subs the front scope was called # 1 scope and was the attack scope. Not surprisingly the rear scope was called # 2 scope and was the search scope. They both had the same length.
