new to sh3

hello - please can u help
1] when i start up sh3 from the desktop i am prompted to insert the dvd-rom disk so that the protection system can verify it. do i have to do this every time i want to play the game?
2] when i get to the command room or on the bridge the curser becomes jerky and panning the view is the same. the frame rate is also greatly reduced. when in the radio room and other parts all is ok.
3] when i press f1 the help menue does not appear.

my pc should easily run this software and all the green ticks appeared saying that all was ok to run it.

any help appreciated

First of all, HI!!!

Then, are you using any mods. If not, that's the reason why you don't have the F1 help screen (I know GW has it, have no idea on NYBM)

I believe that there is a No-DVD mod around, but I dn't know where to find it.

1.) Yes... not going to say any more but Im sure someone else will.

2.) That is a result of your systems performance and something called "prefetch" only cure is either reduce the graphics or upgrade your equpipment.

3.) there is a little check box to close it or change views.

From what I read here it does indeed run it okay. You may not have enough to run it at the highest quality settings.

Run down what you have as a computer. It seems RAM is the biggest feeder on this game. If you do not have 1024 I recommend you upgrade to that and see what you get. BIG memory hog she is

This aspect of the game really annoyed me as well. It would take ages to verify that my DVD was original, especially as I'm used to playing Dangerous Waters and Sub Command that allow you to do a full install and run them without the CD's in the drive. As far as I am aware Starforce didn't cause any problems with my PC though. This forum doesn't promote the mod to get around the no-dvd issue because presumably it allows illegal use of software.
